Chapter 2 Savannah P.O.V. As I led Elara to go get her armor, I took the opportunity to study her. Her dripping wet dirty blonde hair had sea-green streaks, and her eyes were a dark blue with gold flecks. From the way her gaze flitted everywhere, and the way her shoulders tensed, I had no doubt that this girl was a formidable opponent. And a good friend to have with you in battle, as long as you didn’t get on her bad side. I stored these observations in the back of my head. As we reached the armory I strapped on Elara’s armor, and gave her a helmet with a blue plume. We approached the rest of our team. Along with Athena and Hermes, we got Zeus, Ares, Hephaestus, and a few others. Before we reached them, a kid with tousled black hair skidded to a stop in front of us. “Hi newbie!” He greeted Elara, who smiled warily, and held out one hand. The boy grasped it, and slammed it to one side. “I win!!” He shouted gleefully, and dashed off before I could blink. Elara stood there for a moment, and I almost burst out laughing at the look on her face. “That’s Clyde Tawyer. Child of Nike. He likes to make everything a competition, and I think he thought you were challenging him to an arm wrestling contest.” I explained. Elara frowned. “Competitive much?” I snorted. As we made it to our group, a girl stepped up to us. “Where have you been?” Vienna demanded. Her long black hair was pulled up in a high ponytail. “I was busy,” I responded. Just then Vienna noticed Elara. “Ah. New demigod?” As I nodded, her brow furrowed. “I can’t get a reading on her.” “That’s because she was no memory,” I explained, cringing inside. It was supposed to be a secret shared between Chiron and the Athena Cabin that Vienna could slightly read minds, and I glanced at Elara, who fortunately, didn’t seem to be paying attention. “No one cares,” an accented voice drawled. “Now can we get on to the plan where I save the day?” I repressed a sigh. Ruby Calder came into view, her luscious blonde hair swept over one shoulder and sky blue eyes sparkling. Her older half-brother, Lysander, stood behind her, glaring at anyone who dared make eye contact with him. “For the last time Ruby, you are NOT in any way doing anything special,” Vienna spoke in an exhausted tone. Ruby rolled her eyes. “But I’m a child of one of the big three.” “And we have plenty of those now,” Vienna reminded her. Ruby frowned. I knew she disliked the amount of children being discovered. “But most of them haven’t been confirmed! They’re just guess-” Ruby started to say, and I interrupted her with a glare. “Let’s begin, shall we? Elara, you guard the flag with Savannah.” Vienna instructed. I nodded, one hand on the short sword at my belt. We placed the flag in a patch of prickly bushes, not hard to see, but almost impossible to get to. Elara stood on one, partly hidden by tree branches, spear in watch form. I stood next to the flag, in full view as a challenge. Before I could react, arrows whipped around, strings flying. “Apollo,” I cursed, tangled up. Kids dropped from the trees, bows slung over their shoulders, led by a girl with shoulder length raven black hair. Her ice blue eyes glinted. “Luna.” I sighed. The daughter of Hades grinned at me. “Easy game,” she remarked. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed Elara cutting her ropes with her spear. Luna swung her stygian iron, touching the tip under her chin. “Don’t think about it.” She warned. I watched Elara raise her hand, and I watched the creek respond. I watched as she sent a wave crashing down on Luna and I watched as everyone glanced up to the spot above her head where a claiming mark should have appeared, where a claiming mark hadn’t appeared on campers for the last month, leaving us to guess. But this was clear proof, and I couldn’t help but grin at the annoyed expression on Ruby’s face as Chiron spoke the words. “All hail Elara, Daughter of Poseidon.”
