Hi there! Welcome to my SWC workshop! Here you'll learn all about pacing in stories. There are six parts, each with a different focus. In part 1, you'll learn what pacing is (and what it does), and what good pacing looks like. In part 2, you'll learn about why pacing is important and why you need to have a good mix of fast and slow pacing. Then in part 3, you'll learn about pacing on a bigger scale: How to incorporate it into your plot. I'll talk about planning, chapter outlines and how to make long sections seem slow-paced while still having an interesting, action packed story. Part 4 focuses on the smaller scale, talking about ways to change the pacing of individual sentences and paragraphs. You'll learn about dialogue tags, the importance of length and how you can use detail to help with your pacing. In part 5, you'll learn about how to tell if there's something up with your pacing, and how to fix it. You'll see examples of good and bad pacing, as well as some strategies to improve your own pacing. Finally, in part 6 we'll wrap up the workshop, review what we've learnt and do a fun writing activity!
