I hope that you're doing well! Today I'm doing a commentary type of thing! Also, how do you like the new banner and thumbnails for women's history month? Also, thank you guys so much for 200 followers! Also, sorry for all of the alsos :) Okay, anyways, why am I mad? There are several reasons. 1. The Disney princesses lack diversity. While there are some amazing, diverse characters like Moana, Tiana, Pocahontas, Merida, Jasmine, and Mulan, most of the princesses are caucasian, all of them (as far as I know) are straight, and none of them (as far as I know) have any type of disability. Would it hurt to have a plus-sized, muslim, lesbian, or autistic character? No! Would it hurt to have more black characters? No! I really don't understand why Disney hasn't done this despite being around for almost 100 years! 2. No one needs a man to save them This is a big one! I'm sick and tired of the women in Disney shows and movies always having to be saved by men. In the movie "Sleeping Beauty," Aurora barely speaks. She just sleeps and sleeps only to be awoken by a creep who kissed her without consent. Are you kidding me? What are they trying to influence here? Not to mention "Beauty and the Beast" where girls are taught that a kind, sweet, and loving woman can turn an abusive person into a gentleman. Plus, it shows that people who look different can't be happy or find love. 3. Genders are portrayed stereotypically For all of these points, I want to make it clear that there are some exceptions but I'm not here to talk about those instances today. Anyways, you are free to wear and do and talk about whatever you want, whether it 'fits your stereotype' or not. Girls are free to like makeup and the colour pink just as much as they are able to wear shorts and t-shirts and play with cars instead of dolls, so why does Disney keep creating characters that fit with the stereotypes? Aren't they trying to inspire children? I guess this is similar to my first point but I really wish they didn't always have girls who wore high heels and full-faces of makeup with glittery clothes. There's nothing wrong with wearing and liking that type of stuff, it's just that every female character looks and acts the same in these movies and shows! Why? Just why? Why do all of the princesses wear dresses and gowns when they can wear suits and ties, too? Okay, I know this sort of turned into a vent but it feels good to release all of my thoughts so I hope you enjoyed this commentary! If you did, don't forget to press the heart and favourite buttons! Also, let me know your opinions on this topic in the comments! have an amazing day, - belle ✰
