Thump! The soccer ball bounces off my foot, and straight into the goal. I pump my fist. The girls' soccer championship is almost over and our team has 16 points while the other has none. Sweat trickles down the side of my face, but I don't care. Fans are chanting, "GO DOLPHINS GO!" over and over again. "AVALON! OVER HERE!" Wendy, my teammate passes the ball to me but before I can reach it, an enemy from the other team (The Sharks) comes out of nowhere and takes the ball for herself. She kicks the ball over towards the goal, but our goalie, Maya, blocks her shot as quick as lightning. I cheer and get my head back in the game. Quinn gets the ball and passes it to me, and I pass it over to Wendy who shoots it into the goal. We have 18 points now. A few moments later, the other team scores a goal out of nowhere! I curse under my breath and keep running, my sides pounding with pain. The Sharks keep scoring goals, so many times. Too many times. Not soon, our team calls a time-out. Coach Kathie (for Coach K for short) huddles us up. "C'mon, Dolphins! What's up with you guys tonight?" she says. We all stay quiet. She sighs. "Okay, girls. I know you can do this. We may be behind, yes, but that does not mean that we'll lose. Now get back out there! Go Dolphins!" "Yeah!" We cheer, and we head back onto the field. There are 20 seconds on the clock. It's down to the wire now; both of the teams are tied 20-20. I run as fast as my body will allow me. The warm summer air flows around my face. 10... Ellie has the ball. 9... Now Wendy. 8... she passes the ball to Tasha. 7... Tasha passes the ball to me. 6... I run down the field. 5... I pass the ball to Christine. 4... She speeds by 4 people. 3... She kicks the ball through the air. 2...The goalie on the other team tries to block it. 1. The ball goes into the goal! We won the championship! My head feels like it's on a merry-go-round as everyone goes into a group hug. "DOLPHINS! DOLPHINS! DOLPHINS!" everyone chants. That was the best game of my life!
