☾☽ Spread Your Wings ☾☽ ☾☽ Chapter 7 ☾☽ ☾☽ Strange Wings ☾☽ ☾☽ My friends and I made our way downstairs. We bumped into Oleander on the way down. He was creepy although he looked pretty normal, with his ruffled, cedar brown hair and dark, lapis eyes. He was a bit small, but there was something about him that made him seem taller than reality His smile was crooked and sickly sweet. His eyes were hypnotizing, like they were swirled with thousands of other colours as well as dark blue. He stared at us for a moment, before saying, "Well well well, I see you told her about the Avians." I didn't see how he could know that. I shifted my wings uncomfotably. It had been weird seeing my friends with wings, and now it was weird seeing them withought. I was the only one who kept my wings out, mostly because I didn't know how to make the magically dissapear, but also because it would be suspisious to all the normal humans who had seen me with wings this morning. "Yes, we did." Serenity said curtly, at the same time Estel growled, "It's none of your buissness!" The two girls glared at each other. Oleander smiled his twisted smile. He seemed amused at the tangle he'd caused. "Why, Estel, I'm shocked! Of course it's my buissness, since I'm an Avian too!" He gestured at Serenity. "Serenity knew that, didn't you? She was only informing me." Serenity looked confused. "I didn't... but- I was only..." She trailed off, looking lost. Iris glared at Oleander, like she was about to fly and attack him, so I gently took her wrist to top her from hurting herself and everyone else. Something about Oleander told me that despite Iris was stronger and bigger than him, he could easily take her down. Bebosta glanced at me. "Oleander likes to twist his words around. He gets everyone so confused sometimes." Alton nodded in agreement. "Yeah. Once, he had me thinking that they teach absoluetly nothing at the Aerial School. For a whole day! I almost went and asked my parents if I could go to another school when I was old enough. He's the worst." Eerie - Rie - raised her eyebrow. "You were really dumb enough to belive that?" "You try going against Oleander and his stupid words!" Alton complained. "We'll see how long you last!" Before Rie and Alton could spiral into a full blown fight, Oleander moved aside. "If you're going to fetch Saskia and Angelo and that other Avian in handcuffs, then I'd better go with you. I mean, you don't want to forget me here and go on to Flight without me, right?" His face made it perfectly clear that he knew we would rather leave him here. Serenity pushed past him, but Iris called her back. "Wait, Oleander. What do you mean, the other Avian in handcuffs? It's only us, Saskia and Angelo." "No. That girl who tried to run way, she's an Avian, too." Rie spoke up. We all turned to her. "She's from Flight, but she ran away a few weeks ago. During that time, she robbed a human bank, which is why she was in handcuffs. Angelo saw this as the perfect opportunity to collect you as well as her." "How do you know this?" Serenity demanded. "Because I knew her, back in Flight. We were... friends. Her name is Alnico Endeavor." Bebosta frowned. "Oh. I've never seen her. I guess that does make sence..." Alton poked Nica. "Alnico? Nica? Get it?" He grinned at Nica's dark face. "They're not even that close, Alton. Even your names closer than mine." Oleander shrugged. "Either way." By the time we got downstairs, the halls were empty. Everyone was probably having lunch. We found Angelo in her office, frowning at a letter in her hands. Her office had dark brown walls and a brown carpet. A big, black desk was set in the middle, with piles of papers and feathers drifting everywhere. There was a computer on the desk. I could just make out the background on her desktop, through all the files she had on there. It was of Nica and Rie, but younger. Nica was about 10, and Rie was 12. They were standing on a balcony in the sun, way, way up from the ground. Behind them streatched a glittering ocean. Figures with wings swooped behind them, so I guessed they were in Flight. The walls behind the desk were lined with shelves, which were stuffed with more papers and boxes, little trinkets and paperweights. I noticed a photo on her desk of 2 people. One was Angelo herself with her long, black ringlets in a bun. Her olive skin was slightly more tanned, and she was smiling into the camera. Next to her was another woman, about the same age. Her light brown hair was styled in a choppy pixie cut, and her glass green eyes were looking at Angelo, not the camera. Angelo looked up as we came in. "Hey Mom." Nica muttered. "We're ready." "Did you tell Rusty? Do you have everyone?" She quickly slipped the letter into a pile of other letters. "Yes Mom. Geeze." He frowned at the floor. "Good." Angleo smiled. Nica shrank away as she patted his head. "Did anyone get Saskia? Alnico's waiting by the door." Rest is Down Below!
"I'll get her." Bebosta turned and ran down the hall. I noticed that Oleander wasn't with us anymore. He had vanished. This made me really uncomfortable for some reason, and I excused myself. I said I was going to the bathroom, but I didn't go that way. I spent five minuets wandering the school, looking for Oleander, but I eventually wound up outside the bathroom anyways. I was feeling really dizzy, probably from all the weirdness today had brought, so I went inside to splash water on my face. Oleander was there. He was sitting on the shelf-thing that held the line of sinks, legs crossed. He looked quite comfortable. He smiled at me. "Rusty! Perfect timing!" I backed into a wall. "W-what are you doing in here?" He shrugged, and began to shimmer. The next second, the worst wings I had ever seen sprouted from his back. I mean, they wern't ugly, or anything like that. They were acually quite cool, but they made my brain spin and swirl all over the place. His wings were shaped like a mix between crow and eagle, but they were coloured like peacock wings: iridesent shades of dark green and brown, a blue, purple and gold 'eye' at the end of each feather. I stumbled, feeling weak, and even dizzier than before. Oleander smiled again. "I just wanted to say that you are very clever." I frowned at him, not sure where he was going with this. "Maybe too clever. We'll see." With that, he jumped down and pushed past me, heading back towards Angelo's office. ☾☽ ☾☽ Hi guys! This chapter was longer than the last few have been!
