I joined Scratch in the summer of 2020. I think I was lucky. I got a couple of months before things started to kick off. Now, since I'm an intro maker, I will be focusing more on that topic. But let's start with some others. F4F Now, I have to admit, I did F4F quite a bit when I first started out. It seemed like an easy way of getting followers, and I just thought, why not? Don't get me wrong. It's perfectly natural to want fame. Humans are designed to live in a community, so they want to impress, to stand out. But this can be taken much too far. Such as, using 'feedback' as an advertising technique, or even using the trending hack (for those of you who don't know, if your project is on trending eg. #10, and you reshare, it will go higher). And there are people who have about 500 followers, but they are following about 1000 people, mostly through F4F. Onto my second point. Stealing Intros So many intro makers are considering quitting, or already have quit. One of them who most of you probably know about is @-TIC-, but one who quit just today is @-DerpCreator-. There are so many more, mostly because of people stealing intros and claiming them as their own. Seriously guys, why do you think it is okay to take intros from people? Have you considered how you would feel if someone did that to you? Would you just shug it off and say 'Fine, you can take the intro that took me three hours to make and not give any credit?' No. You wouldn't. Taking code/art This is very similar to my last point. There are still people who take scripts or art without crediting the original creator. Would you walk into a museum, grab an old painting you like the look of, and walk back out again? No. So why do it on scratch? Being disrespectful Some of you probably know about the @Supercanon20 and @awesomebricks1 incident. If you don't, you can probably find it on their profiles, but I don't want to talk about it here. But I have seen a lot of disrespectful comments recently, and it is definitely on an incline. So just stop, okay? One of my favourite scratchers (who is also a great scratch friend) has left, some of the legendary intro makers have left or are thinking about leaving, and scratch hate is still rising. I'm not directing this at some people. There are plenty of people who are great people to talk to, and a lot of people have had nothing to do with any of this stuff. But there are a lot of people out there who think that it's fine to just continually post disrespectful comments, steal code and copy intros. I've even seen 'hating accounts' made. So stop with the hate. Stop with the disrespect. Stop with the theft. And maybe we can get scratch back to the place it was, only a year ago. Thanks for reading. Credits to: , , and for their usernames for some ideas, and a couple of concepts, like the museum one. You for reading all the way down here.
