-----To truly use this project, you need a Makey Makey. ----- 1. Get some aluminum paper. You should have some in your kitchen. 2. Tape one piece of aluminum to the side of your door (The side that comes in contact with the door frame, not the hinges) and another piece to the doorframe. Make sure the two connect when you close the door. 3. Bust out the Makey Makey 4. Connect the Makey Makey to your computer 5. Use the included alligator cables to connect Earth to the aluminum on the doorframe 6. Use the alligator cables to connect Space with the aluminum on the door (I suggest clipping together about 4 alligator cables together in a chain so when the door is opened/closed there is less chance of breaking the aluminum/cables) 7. Close your door, unplug any headphones, and turn up the volume. 8. After everything is ready to go, start the project. 9. You should hear a voice say, "The door has closed." If you forgot to close the door when you started, it should say "The door has opened." 10. Open and close the door alternately and you should be warned by the voice each time! 11. Whenever you leave your room, connect the Makey Makey and leave the volume at full blast, and you should be able to hear whenever your little brother tries to get in! You have a door alarm!
I got the idea when I saw a video of how to create a cookie jar alarm on a Makey Makey project idea page, and I decided to make my own. Using my supreme comprehension of circuits (open circuit=energy is blocked, closed circuit=energy moving fine), I devised my own code to support the idea. As you can see, I am exceptionally proud of it.
