The River Of Lost Dreams Evelyn threw a stone into the long winding river by the Ever Tree, a tree said to hold all of the answers from the past and future. Her smooth stone skipped into the river, hitting the water gently and springing forwards. Evelyn wiped her dirty hands on her soft blue dress. She sat on a stone with one crack through the stone on the side of the river and watched her stone sink into the beautiful clear water. Evelyn picked up a small pebble and held it in her hand. she stood up and climbed up the rocky terrain on the side of the river. she placed her hand on a small ledge in the side of the rock she was clinging onto. she climbed onto a ledge and turned around to gaze at the river. She dropped the pebble in her hand into the beautiful water. her hair streamed behind her, the sun lighting up her face. She raised her hand into the sky, the sun bringing warmth to her hand. She felt like she could fly into the clouds and become part of the glorious light. The river glinted in the sunlight. Evelyn climbed higher, and Lay in the soft, green grass, and breathed in the fresh air of the wilderness. She wished she could live out here, with the animals, and the light. "What are you doing up here?" A voice said. Evelyn quickly sat up. It was Adam, the Farmer's boy. "I came here to get away from mother." Said Evelyn. she layed back in the grass, and Adam joined her. They layed on the grass looking up into the sky. They where quite for a minute, until A bluebird flew overhead. The bird chirped at them, and landed beside Evelyn. "Oh, Hello." She said smiling. The bluebird cocked it's head to the side and chirped again. Evelyn held out a hand, and as Adam watched, the bird hopped onto the palm of Evelyn's hand. Evelyn slowly stood up, not wanting to startle the bird. Adam stood up and brushed his hands on the knees of his pants. He dug in his pockets for sunflower seeds from the farm. He fed them to the bluebird, marveling at the birds beautiful soft, blue feathers. After the bluebird had ate all the seeds, he chirped and flew down to the river. Adam and Evelyn climbed down to the bluebird, who hopped impatiently. he chirped at them, asking them to hurry up. "We're coming!" Evelyn called to the bluebird. Adam got there first, but shortly after, Evelyn arrived. He steadied her, for she had almost tripped over a tree root. "Are you okay?" He asked. "Yeah, fine." She Replied blushing. They both looked at the bluebird, who had fluttered into the water of the river. He picked up a pebble in his beak, and put it in the water. He picked up another pebble, and placed it beside the first one. He continued putting the pebbles into the water until he had created an image. "A tree," Adam Said, squinting at the picture. The bluebird chirped happily. "But... What could that mean?" Evelyn said. "I don't know," Adam said. He was looking at the bird, who was hopping a circle around his masterpiece. "I think he wants us to go to the Ever Tree." He said finally. "Why?" Evelyn said. Adam walked to the Ever Tree. He touched the smooth bark of the tree's trunk. Suddenly, the bluebird let out a sharp cry, and fell to the ground. Evelyn dashed to the fallen bird and seen that there was two fang marks, and that a snake was slithering away. "No!!!" She sobbed. "I can't lose you!" She scooped the bird into her arms, and cradled him in her hands. an eye of the bird slowly opened, but closed again. Adam kneeled beside her. He placed a hand on her back. Evelyn put the bird on the ground. She reached over to Adam and took his hand. Tears streamed down her cheeks. The bluebird's body glittered with a gold glow, and the body slowly rose to the sky. "He's joined the light." Adam said gently. A tear rolled down Evelyn's cheek. "I didn't get to say goodbye." She said. They sat there in silence. "I suppose we should go to the Ever Tree." Adam finally said. They stood up, still holding hands, and walked to the tree. Evelyn placed her hand on the tree. A leaf fell from the tree, she seen writing on it. Adam picked it up, and read it aloud. "The river of tears is what's holding you back, climb the tree." What's that supposed to mean?" Adam asked. "We have to climb it," replied Evelyn. "But we don't have any safety gear," Adam said. He squinted up at the top of the tree. "We can climb it." Said Evelyn. "It's what the bluebird wanted us to do." She Reached up to a branch, and pulled herself up onto it. "C'mon!" she said. (There wasn't enough room for all of the story, go down to credits for more)
Adam climbed up beside her. They They slowly made their way up the tree, until they got to the very top. Evelyn pulled herself up to the top branch, and breathed in the air. "It feels so--" She started. "Magical." Adam finished for her. Evelyn felt a glowing green-yellow leaf. Adam placed his hand on hers. They looked at the beautiful trees, and rocks, Adam was right, it was magical. They looked at the river. The river. That's where they had to go! "Adam, we have to get to the river!" "But how? It'll take us and hour to get down from here." Adam said. "Don't do--" he started. Too late, he sighed. Evelyn had already jumped into the river. She started treading water. "C'mon slowpoke!" He sighed again. He stood up, and jumped into the air. he fell into the river, soaking wet. He emerged from the water, his curly hair plastered to his head. Evelyn giggled. "Oh no," There was a whirlpool starting below them. "Swim as fast as you can!!!" Adam called. They swam to the edge of the river, but the whirlpool was faster. It swept them inside, and transported them somewhere magical... Evelyn coughed and slowly opened her eyes. She couldn't believe what she saw. They where orbs, floating everywhere, and she seemed to be on some type of island. "Adam!!!" She called. She looked around and seen that he was still out. she ran to him, and stumbled onto the ground. "Adam!" He coughed, and opened his eyes. His eyes widened when he saw where they where. "What... are these?" he said, getting to his feet. Evelyn looked into a bubble, and was astonished to see a little girl inside, hugging her mother. "I don't know," she said. She peered into another, and seen a boy inside. He seemed to be reading a book with his grown-up sister. Then they heard a voice, "This is the river of lost dreams." Adam looked around. "Who said that?" The voice ignored him. "Here you will find the dreams of children that can never come true." "But... What about this one, the one with the boy and his sister?" Evelyn asked, confused. "His sister is dead. Same with that little girl's mother." the voice said. They where heartbroken. "Your dream is to make the bluebird come back. That is impossible." "But, I will give you a gift, go back to your world and it will be there. " The whirlpool started up again, and Adam and Evelyn where transported back to the real world... Evelyn opened her eyes. Adam was beside her, and had just woken up. They sat up and looked at each other. Then Evelyn knew what Adam's dream was. She smiled at him, and held his hand. Overhead, they heard a chirp. The Bluebird! He had come back!!! No... This wasn't him. They looked up at the sky. then they seen... "Baby bluebirds!!!" And That, is The River Of Lost Dreams. The End.
