TW: Talk of Seggsual Assault --- Ok, so by know I'm sure we've all seen the 97% statistic. And if you haven't it is basically a study that the UK came out with. Included was a statistic that 97% of women from the ages of 18 to 55+ have be sexually harassed and/or assault in their lifetime. NINETY SEVEN PERCENT. That means that out of 3,889,818,369 women in the world, only around 116,694,551 (One hundred sixteen million, six hundred ninety four thousand five hundred fifty one) women will not be sexually harassed or assaulted in their lifetime. This is not okay on any level. As someone who has been apart of the 97% since I was 9 I would literally give up everything to keep the 3% safe. How many more women or feminine/female presenting individuals such as myself (but I will just be using women for now because it is easy to write) need to be ray-ped and killed for people to take this seriously? When will people realize it isn't a women's job to protect themselves from being catcalled, or groped, or ray-ped? When will people stop victim blaming, Because no Josh I wasn't wearing revealing clothing. I was wearing jeans, a sweatshirt, and crocs. Well why didn't you just fight back? Do you think I didn't!? I tried so so hard, but there is only so much an 11 year old (while a really bad breathing problem) can do against a fully grown adult man. We should have the right to feel safe walking to our cars, and to work, and down the streets at night. We should have to carry tasers and pepper spray and pocket knives. Women deserve to feel and be safe, and the fact that we can't is complete bs. Thanks for coming to my tedtalk
