S T O R Y : When Sun woke up, she was confused. Was her getting chosen for the Trials of Ascension just a hopeful dream? Her thoughts were interrupted by her mom calling her: “Sunrise! Remember you have to go to the palace today!” Sun sighed. It wasn’t a dream after all. “Okay!” she shouted. “Be right down!” Sunrise quickly grabbed her bags and raced down the stairs. “What time is it?!?!?” she cried, looking at the clock. “What? It’s almost nine?” Sun quickly grabbed a fruit and ate it. “Bye!” She called over her shoulder to her family, who were waving from the door. “Take care of Tifón!” she shouted at Dusk, who nodded. Tifón chirped at her as she walked out the door. Sunrise vaulted gracefully into the air and flew off in the direction of Lady Peregrine's palace, which was in the center of the city.. When she finally arrived with only a few minutes to spare, she landed. She fumbled with her cold hands to get her circlet onto her head. The guards made way for her and bowed as she walked into the palace. There, Comet, Firefall, Inferno, and Raven were already waiting. Sunrise took her place just as a set of grand doors opened, and Lady Peregrine walked out, with her councillors behind her. “Welcome, Trial candidates!” Her voice boomed across the hall, which was specially made to enhance acoustics. “We will leave for the Trial Islands in three day’s time. Until then, you will train.” Two guards opened a set of massive, ornate doors into a large, circular room, filled with different stations with doors behind them: one for learning how to fight with swords, one for armor, and many more. The 5 awestruck draganets were ushered through another set of doors, where they were met with 55 other whispering, murmuring draganets. “This year,” Lady Peregrine announced with pride, “The SkyWings had the honor of hosting the Training, as all of you know. These are the other candidates. Here you will be informed about everything you need to know about the Trials.” She signaled to an old dragan with faded scales, who walked up to the front of the room. “Hello. I am Heron. Trial candidates,” he began in a strong but croaky voice, “in three days you will enter the Trials of Ascension, and it is my job to help you learn everything you can about them.” He then began explaining how the Trials worked. “Each Trial will be different. Some will be solo, and some will be teams, so I suggest you find some friends.” he instructed, gazing at them over half-moon glasses. “The winner of each Trial has an opportunity to gain sponsors, who can send you items in times of need. You will all have a chance to get sponsors on the day that the Trials start. Any questions so far?” No one spoke up, so he continued to explain things like how the Trials would take place, and everything else. He also explained how the dragan or dragans in last place would go home after each Trial. After a lengthy time, he finished, and Lady Peregrine announced, “Go and train!”
