There was a war he thought they would win but then ended up losing and getting driven out. The villagers realized what he had done and it was him who cause it. He then realized what he had done, and regretted it deeply.They beat him up barely about to let him live and now he's begging for mercy, hoping they won't hurt him again if he slips up. He hopes he can redeem himself.
