A lot of different jobs were filled by animals, such as getting supplies like ammunition to other places and going to war areas, (usually done on horseback). When on war fronts, soldiers would bring out canaries to clear the area and breathe the air to check for gas. When they started to suffer from the gas, that showed that there was gas in the air. Also, cats and dogs would be brought out to check trenches for pests such as rodents. Pigeons (and sometimes also dogs but not in this game) would carry messages to other places. Overview: Camels, horses, and donkeys transported supplies. Dogs & cats searched trenches for rats. Pigeons and dogs transported messages. Canaries were used to check for toxic gases.
