Stem is not in any skulk, but he does have the powers of a Thunder Skulk fox. Stem is Root's half brother, who has the same mother but a different father. Soon after giving birth to Stem and his sister, Petal, Pollen, his mother, was killed. Root took care of Stem until he was one year old, when he decided to leave to look for his father, who he had never seen. Recently Stem found Gale, his father, but Gale did not want anyone to ruin his new life, and wounded Stem's legs. Gale did not kill him, being unable to kill his own son, but left him to die. Root and Stem shared a vision, where the scene of Stem finding Gale was replayed so that Stem could tell Root where he was before he bled to death.
