So a lot of my online friends struggle a lot with accepting themselves. I do, sometimes, too. And one of the things that makes you stop accepting yourself is other people telling you things that make you “worse”. Two people that i was very close to recently passed away. Coping with things like this is really difficult, and some thing that I do is obsess over things. I obsessively watch a show, and I can watch for hours on end. It’s not healthy or anything, but it’s a coping mechanism. If you have a coping mechanism, and it makes you comfortable without hurting anybody else or yourself, it is VALID. I have been told SO MANY TIMES that I shouldn’t listen to certain types of music, watch certain shows/movies, read certain books, say certain things, etc. That’s where Billie Joe Armstrong, the man in the picture, comes in. Billie Joe is the lead singer of Green Day. Green Day prevented many teenagers from committing self-kill, and helped them out of depression. Obsessively listening, learning a lot about the band is what’s helping me cope. Sadly, people tell me that it’s bad and that it’s wrong for a teenage girl to like them, and that it definitely makes me a bad, weird person with issues. I want to tell you that I’m just like the average person my age. Green Day have a reputation for being punk and whatever, but they haven’t killed people, or advocated for racism or ripe or homophobia. They’re feminists, they fight for the environment, they fight against racism and abuse and so many other major issues. They’re not afraid of wearing “feminine” clothing and makeup. DO THEY SOUND LIKE BAD PEOPLE??? Now I’m not saying that this makes the members of Green Day gods or anything. This is how everybody should be. If someone tells you that what you use to cope is wrong, think of it this way. Think beyond the reputation of whatever it is that someone is insulting that you like. So here’s the most important bit, not entirely related to the whole green day thing though: IF SOMEONE TELLS YOU THAT YOUR COPING MECHANISMS ARE WRONG, REMEMBER THAT WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH IS WRONG TOO.
The guy in the picture is Billie Joe Armstrong, lead vocalist and guitarist of Green Day. Also thank you so much to for inspiring me and a lot of others to speak up about stuff like this. Thank you to so many amazing people like , , , and for accepting me, no matter how strange I am.
