Hello! Welcome to my Writing Contest Entry! It's a poem, and I just wrote it on a whim lol. I had prompts, I chose a theme, for anyone who's curious, it was rain, bird crow. (mwhaha i changed crow to raven in the poem) I started out kinda rhymeish and then that went away. For me, writing freely trumps trying to rhyme stuff and have it sound like Amanda Gorman or something (Who, if you haven't heard of her, go look at The Hill We Climb, her inaugural poem. It's wonderful) Here's the link to the contest studio, if you want to join. You should hurry up, though, the due date for the first round is April 20th. https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/29335129/ Anyways, let's get to the actual poem :D oh wait: i should probably add a trigger warning: it mentions broken bones... as close to blood and gore as i'll ever go in my writing.. I don’t know where the bird will take me Up Maybe Flying on the back of its bright black wings Bright black Is that a thing? So dark it’s light Speckled with turquoise Sparking under the night Sky dotted with stars Rising high above the flames The raven soars Wind whipping around me Heading towards the North Star now Bursting out of the confines of the clouds The sky’s no longer the limit And it’s everything and nothing at once Nebulas, supernovas, suns and moons Neverland seems just around the corner Past Neverland and Never Never Land we fly We are unstoppable Until I fall Down The raven grows smaller Smaller I close my eyes Brace for the thump Shattering me It never comes I land on a soft pillow A cloud But only for a moment will the cloud hold me in its soft embrace Of cotton-like puffs filled with pockets of rain Ready to wash away hopes and dreams Written on the sidewalk I never used to think of rain that way It was always puddle-jumping and bright yellow rain boots Like mini suns gleaming through the gloom Rain starts to soak through my clothes My perfect coat Bright black, like the raven’s wings Speckled with turquoise, Sparkling in the starlight Gloomy clouds fill my mind Blocking the light from reaching me My hands turn to ice Fingers poised to break off like icicles hanging from a gutter on a winter morning Until It all stops I land on another white cloud One that holds up One that’s held me in its soft embrace through all my dreams All my nightmares Just like this one continued:
cont. It never comes I land on a soft pillow A cloud But only for a moment will the cloud hold me in its soft embrace Of cotton-like puffs filled with pockets of rain Ready to wash away hopes and dreams Written on the sidewalk I never used to think of rain that way It was always puddle-jumping and bright yellow rain boots Like mini suns gleaming through the gloom Rain starts to soak through my clothes My perfect coat Bright black, like the raven’s wings Speckled with turquoise, Sparkling in the starlight Gloomy clouds fill my mind Blocking the light from reaching me My hands turn to ice Fingers poised to break off like icicles hanging from a gutter on a winter morning Until It all stops I land on another white cloud One that holds up One that’s held me in its soft embrace through all my dreams All my nightmares Just like this one I breathe It’s all over I’m not shattered My fingers are soft and warm Out the window, I see the raven Soaring high above the stars Bright black Speckled with turquoise spots gleaming under the light A daydream in the midst of a nightmare Even though it’s the darkest black you’ll ever lay your eyes upon thanks for reading!! let me know what you think in the comments :D
