Chapter 5: {Basil} Scroll down to read. I may remake these later so they're like Chapter 2, but I don't have the time right now. I keep liking the chapters more and more. ^u^ First: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/496765211/ Previous: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/498994334/ Next: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/529694818/ Basil feels uncharacteristically shy as she greets Quiverstar. She doesn’t understand why she’s nervous, but she acts politely anyways. Once they’re introduced, Quiverstar says, “I need to speak with Whorlspots, but I think it would be good for you to meet some of our clanmates while you wait. Flashpaw can introduce you to some of our clanmates.” She turns to Rosie and orders, “Roseheart, I’d like you to get some volunteers to go with you on a short hunting patrol.” Rosie dips her head respectively, and so Quiverstar walks off along with Whirlybird. Rosie faces Basil and Flashlight and says, “I’ll leave you here then. It really was nice to meet you, Basil. You’re an interesting young she-cat.” Basil purrs happily and thanks her before following Flashlight who had begun to walk away. When she catches up to him, Basil curiously asks, “So what are we seeing first? Or who?” He glances at her and responds, “I want you to meet the apprentices first, since they’re the ones around our age. So we’re going to the Apprentice’s Den.” She shrugs indifferently, “Alright, cool.” Right before they reach the den a small but very fluffy ginger and white she-cat barrels out of the opening. She stops in front of them and brightly greets Basil, “Hiya! My name is Fuzzypaw! I’m also Flashpaw’s litermate.” Basil grins, “Fuzzypaw, huh? It definitely fits you. You have gorgeous fur! I’m Basil, if you didn’t already know that.” “Thank you!!” Fuzzypaw gushes. Basil tilts her head curiously, “Hey, do you have a nickname that you like?” She frowns slightly, “Ah, no.” “Mind if I call you Zeze then?” Fuzzypaw beams, “I’d love that!” Flashlight butts in and asks, “Are all of the others still here?” Zeze nods, “Quiverstar let the apprentices stay in camp since Mulchpaw and Lynxpaw are getting their warrior names today.” Flashlight lights up, “Oh yeah! I can’t believe I forgot.” Basil listens with interest, “Can I meet them?” Zeze nods and gestures behind her, “They were napping when you got here, but they’ve probably woken up by now. I’ll go get them and Chestnutpaw as well.” Basil decides not to bother asking who that is and sits down to wait. Soon, Zeze returns with three cats and introduces each of them. “This is Lynxpaw.” A large tan she-cat with black spots, black ear tufts, and a black stump for a tail dips her head in greeting. “I assume you’re wondering about my paws?” Lynxpaw states with a hint of exasperation. Basil blinks obliviously and says, “Uh, no?” Lynxpaw seems vaguely surprised at this and lifts up one paw to show her. Basil looks at it and after a moment realizes that it’s actually pretty big. Very big. No, hold on it’s massive. How is it so big? Wait what’s going on? There’s way too many toes! How did she not notice this before? Lynxpaw laughs good-naturedly at Basil’s clear confusion and explains, “I was born with extra toes. You’ve meet Whorlspots, right?” She nods quietly. “He has the same thing, but I suppose you didn’t notice. He’s my father.” Basil smiles and says, “I can see it.” “Mulchpaw here is my brother.” One of the toms waves his tail with a grin. He’s a darker brown than his sister with tan and black speckled in his pelt, and his tail and paws are both more in proportion, though both Mulchpaw and Lynxpaw are much bigger than her. Also, Basil notices that they both have the same black ear tufts and golden eyes. She thinks that Whorlspots’s eyes may have been the same shade of gold, but she isn’t sure if she just decided that knowing he was their father. She really needed to start paying more attention when she met new people. “And this is Chestnutpaw.” The second tom grunts a reluctant greeting. He has spiky dark brown fur with a single tan stripe that circles his neck and green eyes. Basil tilts her head and innocently asks, “Your name is Chesterpaw? That’s pretty weird.” Chestnutpaw’s eyes flare in annoyance and growls, “No, it’s Chestnut.” “Oh, so no paw. Just Chester.” “No,” He groans in very clear frustration. Basil laughs mischievously, and after she updates her mental list of nicknames, she says teasingly, “It’s nice meeting you, Chester!” Chester sighs heavily and walks back into the den. Basil looks back at her new friends to see all of them on the verge of laughter. Flashlight lets out a snicker and they all burst into fits of laughter. It takes a while for everyone to regain their composure, but once they do Basil realizes that Quiverstar and Whirlybird had come out of the den and Quiverstar was looking at them expectantly. Basil hisses a quick warning, and everyone looks up to the leader, who announces, “It is now time for Mulchpaw and Lynxpaw to become full warriors.”
This is an original story by me, @wildlifekid1. I worked really hard on it, so please don't steal it.
