Happy Earth Day! (I know I'm sharing it a day early!) Click each problem Earth faces to learn a bit about each of them! (Left to right, otherwise words may overlap) I know it's really short, and doesn't talk about all of earths' problems (invasive species, habitat destruction, etc) but I've been kind of busy lately! Anyway, I hope you like it. Please heart and star if you enjoyed/learned something new, it would mean so much to me! ☆ Earth Facts ☆ Earth is the third planet from the sun. It is the only known astronomical object to have life. Venus is known as the "twin planet" or "sister planet" of Earth. This is because of the two planets' similar mass and size. Approximately 71% of Earth is covered by water, and 29% land. Earth is the fifth largest planet from the sun, and spins on it's axis once every twenty-four hours. ☆ The Earth's Atmosphere ☆ The atmosphere are the layers of gases that surround Earth. They are for protecting us from UV rays (radiation), and to keep Earth at a good temperature. The main layers of the Earth's atmosphere are: troposphere (controls the weather), stratosphere (where most of the ozone layer is in) , mesosphere (destroys many meteors/astroids so they do not reach Earth), thermosphere (the layer that the ISS is in) and exosphere (the thin and farthest layer in the atmosphere). ☆ About Earth Day ☆ The very first Earth Day took place on April 22nd, 1970. The day is to raise awareness about the dangers of Earth problems, such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, and more. Many people plant trees, and do small things to help on Earth Day to show their support. The day is also known as "International Mother Earth Day" to some countries around the world. ☆ Things YOU can do to help save Earth ☆ ⤥ If you can, bike, carpool, use the car less, or all three! ⤥ Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! My personal favourites are reduce and reuse, because only 9% of things that get put into the recycling bin actually get recycled :( You can reduce waste by shopping at thrift stores, only buying what you absolutely need, and use less electricity. You can by a reusable water bottle, use reusable bags, and turn your old stuff into new things! ⤥ Plant a tree (or more!) ⤥ Turn off electronics when they are not in use ⤥ Conserve water (take shorter showers & turn off tap when brushing teeth) ⤥ Eat less meat If you have read this far, tysm for taking the time to learn more about Earth...and...Happy Earth Day!!!!!! :)
