Chapter 9 Turtle woke up in a hospital feeling completely drained. There were many bandages covering his entire tail. He looked up at the white on white mother of pearl walls, and the white on white marble floors that surrounded him. There were machines and more bandages on a table. He also saw Crystal, Violet, Opal and his mother Siline, all of which had fallen asleep. They all were sitting on chairs made of stone surrounding him and the stiff bed he was on. Just then, Opal woke up and looked at her little brother. She started crying and gave him a hug. " Ah! My tail! " Turtle exclaimed, " oh sorry… " Opal said, " It's just, you've been asleep for a whole month! " " A WHOLE MONTH?!?!?!?!?! " Turtle gasped, waking up their mother and the pair of friends which had insisted on staying in his room. " Oh Turtle, " Crystal said through tears, " You're okay! " " We thought we lost you! " Violet added. The two of them looked like they had been crying. " I'm so sorry for making you do the dare!! I made you get hurt!!! " Crystal said, starting to cry again. " I'm so, so, so SORRY!!!! " Turtle stopped her and said calmly, " you didn't know that the hook would be there, it isn't your fault. " That made her feel a bit better, and she dried her eyes. " but really, " he continued, " A whole month? Was I really asleep that long? " " Well yeah, " Violet said smiling, " That's why we stayed! " Just then, their parents came in, ( all squeezing in the tiny room with Uncle Kelp half sitting on the table, knocking over all the bandages ) and greeted Turtle. Everything seemed fine. He had his friends, his family, wait. Where was his dad? " Where's dad? " he asked. Siline and Opal looked at each other. " Where's my father?! " After calming Turtle, Siline and Opal explained how Piranha got stabbed while saving him. At this, Turtle immediately tried to sit up, but the pain from his tail stopped him. " And just where do you think you're goin'? " Uncle Kelp asked Turtle, keeping his fin down so Turtle couldn't move. " I - NEED - TO - SEE - MY - FATHER!!!!! " he yelled between struggles. Try as he might, he just couldn't move. " You need to heal and rest. " Kelp said firmly. He still didn't let go. Turtle stopped struggling. It was no use. Kelp finally lifted his fin, but made it hover to see if Turtle would try to escape again. When he didn't, Kelp resumed his position beside the table. Turtle looked longingly at the door, wanting to see his father. Guess this will just be my life for a while… Over the next couple weeks, Crystal and Violet kept visiting Turtle, and he eventually got better. He got to see his father now too, but instantly regretted it. His father had a shard of the hook stuck in his body, and the stab was very, very bloody. " Father…. " Turtle whispered the first time he saw him, not bothering on the tears that now flooded from his eyes. The doctor had not let him take the bandages off yet though. " There is something unique about Turtle and his father's DNA that we are studying, " she said, " 65% of Turtle's DNA cells are oddly blueish, and we are unable to identify them. " Opal and Turtle looked at each other. " 73% for Mr. Sailfin…. " she continued, " it must be why they are blue in color. " " Will it stop me from doing anything? " Turtle asked, hoping he could go home soon, " Nope! " The doctor said, smiling. " You can actually leave tomorrow! Just take it easy and we will do minor check ups every week. " " Tomorrow is the last day of school… " Crystal trailed off, glancing at the two of them. Turtle groaned. " It isn't that bad, " Siline said sternly. " You have a half day and besides, you have missed an entire month. You should go home and get some rest. " Uncle Kelp added. " All of you. " Siline said, eyeing the three companions. " Not us! " Violet pointed out in a sassy tone. " Not Crystal and I! We've been going to school the entire time! " " Violet! Don't sass Mrs. Siline! " Cobalt scolded while Opal laughed. " Okay, okay sorry dad. " Violet apologized giggling. With that, the two families went home. " See you tomorrow! " Crystal called through the door. " Let's go! " Opal said, helping her mom carry all things to the mussel car. Finally, Turtle thought. Home.
