Dᴀᴡɴ Iɴᴛᴏ Dᴜsᴋ - CHAPTER 3 Four days. Four days had passed since Nightshade and the other pups with similar ages had started their training to become Hunters. Today was a day the pups were given a break to do whatever they wanted. Nightshade and her sister had decided to go for a walk in the forest, although their mother came too, just in case they got into serious danger. "How's your training going?" Ebony asked. "Fine... We've mostly done our fight training so far, but we've also done some hunting." Raven answered quietly. Nightshade smiled. "And Curl told us lots of stories during free time!" She found a pile of leaves and jumped in it energetically. Raven rolled her eyes at how childish her sister was acting and continued to walk beside her mother. Ebony suddenly stiffened. "Wait." she said sternly. She wandered off into the trees, leaving the two sisters waiting for her return. *Where is she going?* Nightshade wondered, looking at her sister with a slight concern. A few minutes later, loud noises were coming from the direction their mother had run. "Should we go check it out?" Raven asked, her tail wrapped around her sister's body. "Mother might need our help." Nightshade shrugged. "Maybe... It could be dangerous" The sisters looked each other in the eyes for a long moment, neither making a sound. "Let's go. We might need to save mother's life." As the sisters arrived at the scene, Raven found that she indeed was correct. It was a more terrifying situation than they both thought, and they didn't know what to do. "Run!" Ebony barked at her pups, but they stayed, as still as stone. A large, snarling German shepard stood over her, teeth bared and eyes glaring. Nightshade was the first to act. Despite being the smallest of the two, she flung her little body at the beast, nipping and flailing. The Shepard easily shook her off, and returned it's attention to Ebony, the obviously more valuable catch. Raven made a loud howling noise and attacked as well, flinging herself in a similar manner to her sister, and managing to create a little scratch before she too was thrown off like a stray leaf. It snarled at the two sisters angrily, but in the little moment it was distracted, Ebony leapt up and tore at it's side furiously. "LEAVE MY DAUGHTERS ALONE!" she howled, letting out her most ferocious attacks in an effort to neutralise the threat. The dog barked, a thin trail of bl0od running down it's forehead. Raven and Nightshade looked at each other, then in unison leapt at the enemy. Raven landed on it's back, and Nightshade on it's head, hanging on as tight as she could. "You two hang on! I'll attack it from down here!" The sisters nodded as they each began nipping on the dog, while still clinging on like little bits of dried sap. Ebony flew around in a blur, her enemy confused and madder with every time it missed. She leapt from left to right, snarling and barking, snapping at every spot she could reach. After a little while of the same sequences repeated over and over, the dog decided that it had had enough, and ran into the bushes, scars and wounds covering it's flesh. The three wolves sat down, exausted. "I'd never thought your first battle would be so soon." Ebony panted. "That was really scary, Mama, will we ever have to do it again?" Nightshade whispered. She looked at her mother hopefully. "Yes... I'm sorry you have to live in this mess, my darlings." she replied, eyes heavy with sadness.
