The Melting Pot - A text on what we depict humankind as For about a century, the term "melting pot" has been used as a metaphor by some people to describe what happens when people from geographically and culturally diverse backgrounds live together in a harmonious society. Imagine a school lunch where athletes, musicians, and artists sit together and eat the same food, on the same trays, talking about the same subject. The problem with the melting pot is that it fails to celebrate diversity. It obscures it. The melting pot is about conformity. Instead of creating vibrating and beautiful colors, it blends them. The result is uniform but dull. We can't learn from one another if we're all the same. We cannot grow as human beings if we think and act the same way. Instead of envisioning a melting pot, we should be stitching a patchwork quilt, we each patching a unique in pattern and texture. When all patches are sewn together, something amazing happens. We all speak our minds, share what we love, and connect to each one another as humans. That's the glorious, wonderful beauty of humanity, the beauty of life. Now, what exactly is 'Asian Hate?' Well, ya'll know about Covid, right? So, there seems to be a specific group of people that use their minds to think that, since Covid-19 was first found in Asia, they start to hate on any people who come from that group. But why, though? Well, surviving in these times are tough, people have lost jobs, lost family members, and started having mental health problems. But don't we all? Everybody is suffering, not only them. So, these people start to hate on them, especially in Chinatown, or Flushing, because many Chinese/Asians shop and start businesses there. But hold it. Not only Chinese people, though. Indian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and more are also qualified as Asian, and they get the same treatment. I'm sorry that you're suffering, but we are all too. But the way you're acting is not right. I'm Chinese. Surprised? Usually, when Asians hear about this, they get angry. Really, really, angry. I was like that when I was first told this. I was so mad I could curse. These people could even attempt to injure or even kill people part of Asia, just because this virus started in our country. So what? The virus was found in Asia, FOUND, mind you, it could've started anywhere. That rumor about some dude eating an uncooked snake rat or spider that started the virus (It's told that the animal that they ate contained covid) is a lie. Even though it might've came from an animal, it's not entirely true that someone might've ate it. It's called a rumor. If you're not Asian, you probably be pretty mad. So are we. But anger and violence will only make things much, much worse. We want to be peaceful, and tell everybody that we all eat, drink, sleep, play, live, and die. We're all humans, and we all have lives and people to take care of. Imagine harming an innocent family just because of their race. People who do this might never feel the pain that family will feel when they have to stare at the empty seat that once was sat on a living thing, a human, who is now gone. Someone who they once loved. Will you be happy when we all die? Do you really want the world to be like this? Do you? You do? Sometimes, I wish you were dead, too. I'm trying to contain the anger that is yet to explode out of me. We all do. But we will be peaceful, unlike you, and no matter how much you hate on us, we will fire you back with all we got. Not violence, Not hate, Not anger, Hope. - We're all human, we all should have equal rights, and sadly, that's not the case right now. Put yourself in an asian body that lives in america with a happy, loving family and then wake up to the news saying this: Americans unleash angner on asians for the virus. Then before you know it, one or more of your family members is in the hospital due to one of these attacks. We're all human, so we should be treated like humans. I'm not asian myself, but this is wicked. Society sees someone different and treats them horribly because of that. It's sad to see what we've become.
