Amor ran. Up the stairs to her flat, taking two steps at a time. She barrelled round the corner and knocked a plant pot over, scattering mud over the thick carpet. She ran until the conversation was left far behind her, lost far away. Then she sat on a cushion and licked her paw nervously. How had it all gone so wrong? she wondered. The party had been the best thing she had ever seen; balloons in soft shades of blue and pink; tables clustered around a buffet table crammed with plates; and best of all, a polished oak dance floor. Nothing could have drawn Amor to that place more than that. That alone was what had tempted her. But then it had all gone wrong. She had been in the middle of a dance, when the cat hosting the party had beckoned her with one polished claw. "What's your name, dear?" "Amor, why?" She was panting from the dance, beaming with excitement "Amor?" "Yes, that's what I said. Amor. It means love in French." The feline hissed angrily, raising her hackles and baring her teeth. "Do you know who I am?!" she growled, face alight with rage. "My husband was one of your victims, assassin of Mere!" "W-What? I don't know what you're talking about!" Amor pressed herself against the wall, feeling the floral patterns printed on the wallpaper, rough against her cheek. The cat hissed again. Amor took a step back. But then she spoke again, calmer this time. "I'll bet they're hunting you down right now. A betrayal like that... mm, I wouldn't like to imagine what would happen if they did catch you. I'd run, assassin of Mere. Where else could you go? You don't belong anywhere else."
