m u s h r o o m w a n d e r e r - - - name : finch gender: male personality: grumpy, rude species: fox backstory: (GORE WARNING) finch was always loved by his parents, as he was their only cub. however, he held a grudge against them from an early age. finch's parents confined him to their home and he wasn't allowed to be anywhere else. one day, he had HAD it. he was going to finally see what was out there. so, during the night, he crept out of his den while his parents were sleeping. finch peeked beyond the bushes that marked the territory of his family, and ran out of his safety without thinking. he kept running, and running until he spotted another den. curious to see if anyone was there, he trotted over to it and asked, "hello?". in response, an old fox stepped into the moonlight. she was wearing a mushroom hat. "who must you be?", she snarled. finch took a step back in surprise, but didnt fail to answer. "i'm finch! i've never explored outside my home... who are you?" the older fox looked at him in annoyance, and then suddenly bowled him over so that she had a paw on his neck. "a fox. that's about to dump you into the lake unless you do me a favor. finch struggled to get away from her grasp, but it was no use. "p-please! let me go! i'll do the favor, whatever it is," he pleaded. the older fox stepped back. "fine then. i'm lupin. what i need you to do is to collect the souls of seventeen other foxes. then, return to me and i'll get rid of your curse," she growled while handing him a basket. shock pierced finch's eyes. collect souls? how? he didn't know how long it was going to take, but he accepted anyways and began his search. but the landscape had changed. where were the rivers? and the mountains? just forest and hills. finally, finch understood. lupin had trapped him in a never-ending forest and wouldn't let him go unless he had found several lost spirits. several centuries passed. finch had become immortal during his search, and was still looking for 1 remaining soul. then, an idea struck him. he swiftly ran towards lupin's den and sprinted inside. in the corner of his eye, he saw lupin. snarling, he pounced on her and hooked his claws into her pelt; then sank his teeth on her throat until blood pooled at his feet. lupin dropped to the ground, eyes dull and bloody. he had did it. he was free! but he lived with a never-ending feeling of guilt. when finch looked outside of the den, nothing changed. it was all the same. he was trapped inside the same old landscape. he had murdered his only way to freedom. and he WAS free. but it wasn't in the way he expected. song: other side of paradise by glass animals
