HI PLEASE READ THIS IS SERIOUS today 1 of my friend + another kid in my grade got dress coded, my friend for her shirt showing a bit of her stomach and the other girl because her shirt was showing her shoulders. I want you to remember that I am in 6th grade, everyone is 11-13 years of age, and because of my district 6th grade is still elementary, so tell me why the hell we need a dress code, no 7 year old is gonna see a 6th grader in a crop top and not be able to focus; actually, the dress code is sexist for the reason. Not only is it sexist towards people presumed to be of the female gender but it's also discriminatory towards every gender/sex. It basically says men can't focus on getting a proper education because a woman is showing her skin; it makes males out to be sexualizing monsters and makes females out to be objects people can say anything about when in reality neither of those should be normal and no rules that hate on both sides of the spectrum (I would also like to clarify that I am NOT saying there are only 2 groups of genders, I am just saying both sides because in the (enby-phobic) eyes of most schools there are only 2 groups to be defined by). Kids were getting yelled at left and right today at recess for showing shoulders, and I would like to also say its 85 DEGREES, and where I live, THATS HOT! We should be able to tie up a shirt or cut off the shoulder covering or wear short shorts on days with weather like this. Now heres the other part, a lot of people were yelled at, the 2 girls I mentioned had to change their shirts, and I quite literally got into a yelling match with a lunch mom (if you haven't noticed I'm the embodiment of an angry feminist), if you see this and truly believe the message that the dress code is sexist and should be modernized please spread awareness that it should be changed. Me and my friends are doing things like starting a petition and wearing crop tops on the last day; while these aren't complete solutions, there isn't much we can do.
