When the flag is clicked Player 1 will type out each letter of the word (up to 6 letters) carefully (and slowly so the code can keep up) making sure they don't make a mistake then will click the number 2 to switch it to the other player. Then the other player will try a letter in the word by entering in a single upper case letter. If any of that given letter is there they will be displayed on the right, if not the Hand Man will start to appear. Player 1 wins if player 2 receives a loss (the hang man fully appears), and player 2 wins if they receive a win (discover the full word).
