This is how I imagine it: So Petey's lab got destroyed in Mothering Heights which is why he's temporarily living in Dog Man's house. And at some point, Dog Man and Petey are sitting somewhere by themselves and talking. Petey says something like, "When we first met he hated each other, but now... and Dog Man expects him to say something really nice, but Petey says, "and we still do" which disappoints Dog Man
