Dark Past Yet Bright Future: Lilian's Dream A warm glow spread through my body. I opened my eyes and saw a big patch of fur over my eyes. The fur was a slightly darker shade than my own. Scrambling to my feet I felt something rough, pink and wet slide across my face. Something I had not felt in a long time. I looked up and saw big, friendly, olive-colored eyes looking down at me. It was my mother. "Get outta da way Lillian!" A high pitched voice said behind me. "I wanna catch Jade and you're in da way!" It was Scrape. I looked to my left and saw Violet and June cuddled together sleeping. I tried looking out into the distance but everything aside from my Mother and littermates were just blobs of bright, blurry color. There was movement in the corner of my eye. It was my mothers tail moving back and forth, back and forth. I had to catch it. I reached out with my paw, but the tail wiggled out of the way. Now everything was silent and I could see nothing but the tail. I stuck my butt up in the air, my tail wagging too. 3.. 2... 1... POUNCE! I missed the tail, my paws slipped and I landed on my stomach. I humorless laugh cut through the silence like a knife. The scene changed. I was alone, everything was gray and everything had a sharp, sinister feel to it. Then hands appeared in the gloom. They were coming for me. My body shook with fear, my breath came out in ragged gasps, my fur glistened with sweat and my eyes darted from left to right. I tried running but I was frozen in place. The hands inched forwards. They were almost on me. I could feel the cold they were producing. The hands reached me. They were as cold as ice. They gripped me by the scruff of my neck and yanked me up. My heart was racing. I CAN'T GO BACK. I was back in the cage. The bars were cold and black, as hard as stone. No matter how hard I pushed I couldn't get them to move. I lay down, defeated when I heard a slight noise to the side of me. I looked and saw another puppy, slightly smaller than me, staring at me with big, sad, purple eyes. I wonder if his past was as bad as mine. I wonder if he used to have a warm, loving family. I wonder... THE BALL! A big ball, pink and red, zoomed past my cage. The bars melted away and I was in a sunny meadow. I zoomed after the ball, chasing it with everything I had. I didn't stop. I knew that if I continued chasing the ball everything would be alright. (This dream is written from Lillian's perspective. The other puppy is Sky Blue. Check out there home here: . I adopted them from .)
