Today, May 22nd, is Sherlock Holmes day! Why is it today? Well today is actually Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s (the guy who wrote the original Sherlock stories) birthday! To honor him they made Sherlock day on his day :)) Fun fact: a lot of people actually thought Sherlock Holmes was a real person! Doyle got hundreds and hundreds of letters addressed to “Mr Sherlock Holmes.” One lady even asked if he was in need of a housekeeper down by the lake! Did you know Sherlock Holmes was NOT a hit when first published? A Study in Scarlet was rejected by over 5 publishers before he found one that would accept it; even then the newspaper flopped! And another big thing: Sherlock Holmes never actually wore the iconic deerstalker hat in the stories! It wasn’t until an artist in the 1800’s illustrated him for a magazine that the iconic hat appeared- fans ever since then have pictured him as such. ——————— Art- me!
