Button awoke to a balloon sitting on his face. With a groan, he sat up. Didn't he tell Jrumbot to get rid of the rest of Grumbot's birthday balloons? Maybe entrusting the eight-year-old with a fun-sucking task was a bad idea; he probably should've expected this. Button pushed the balloon off of him, but as he did so, he noticed a notecard tied with string to the tie of the balloon. Huh. He picked up the note and unfolded it, scanning the page with a frown. It read; "Happy Deathday :)" and was signed, "Your favorite dad". Button groaned and flopped back down. Was it that day already? And did Mumbo really have to rub it in? Sitting up, Button grabbed the nearest sharp object he could find and chucked it at the balloon, which now seemed to be mocking him. He missed completely. Okay, that was it. Button stood up, situated his hat on his head, and stomped on the balloon. However, as balloons do, it shot away from him the moment his boot began to press down. Seriously? Button picked up the balloon and squished it as hard as he can until the thing met its end with a satisfying POP. Picking up the limp form that used to be a balloon, Button quickly left the room to go outside. Where? He had no clue; he was just going to wander a bit. Away from Mumbo, if at all possible. He didn't get far, however, before nearly bumping into Jrumbot. The small child ran up to him with a bag of... something, glee splattered on his face. Without waiting for even a peep from Button, Jrumbot thrust the bag in his face, jumping up so that his arm could reach. "BUTTON GWUMBOT AND I MADE YOUW COOKIES HERE!" But Button never got to see these supposed cookies, as Jrumbot's attention immediately shifted to the dead balloon and note. The child dropped the bag to the ground with a thud and snatched the note from Button, tearing it right off the string. His eyes quickly skimmed the page, ignoring Button's irritated, "Hey-!" Very clearly unsatisfied with what the paper said, Jrumbot, without the slightest hint of hesitation, unhinged his jaw and shoved the note into his mouth. Button stared incredulously at the child as he swallowed the note seemingly whole. "Jrum- J- You- WHAT THE H-" He was, thankfully, cut off by Grumbot who walked up holding a bag in one hand and a blanket under his shoulder. "Hey Button," he said with a smile, waving his other hand in greeting. He noticed Button's froze state and cocked his head, asking in a confused tone, "What's wrong?" Button, still agape, turned to Grumbot. "Jrumbot just-" Cutting Button off, Jrumbot answered for him. His voice was still filled with glee, and he spoke as if he was talking about a cute puppy he saw. "Someone gawve Button a mwean note, so I ate it!" Now it was Grumbot's turn to be appalled. "You- WHAT?" "I ate it," Jrumbot answered with a smile, as if this was the most normal, sane thing in the world. Neither Grumbot nor Button had an answer to that, and eventually, Jrumbot picked the bag that he had carelessly thrown onto the ground. "Anyway, we bwought cookies!" He cheerfully opened the bag and took one out. It was one of those rainbow cookies with chocolate on top. Grumbot shook his head out. "Yes, we did! I also brought a bit more food and a blanket and thought we could have a nice picnic," he explained. At Button's questioning look, Grumbot added, "Just a little bit of something to make today a tiny less terrible." He smiled understandingly. "Thanks, Grum," Button said. After a moment, he added, "After I murder Mumbo. That good with you?"
Happy May 26th :)
