Hello humans, not-humans and cyborgs who have stumbled upon this map. I've recently been developing a new plotline that I've been following, and this is the land it takes place in. I have no idea why I made the map, but I think it turned out pretty well. I shared it on here - surprise - because I want to see if anyone would actually be interested in the storyline or the world that comes with it. This is not the whole world, just a continent called - another not-surprise - Brockmoor. Brock means badger in Scottish, and I've sort of loosely based Brockmoor on Scotland. It was the first place I thought of that had badgers... and foxes and pine martens and seals and otters. If you haven't already guessed, seeing the above, ^ , the characters are animals. Now on to the territories and landmarks because I feel like dumping a truckload of information on you guys: ____________________________________________ The Main Burrow. A network of tunnels and burrows, home to dozens of moles and twice that number of rabbits. Easily the biggest rabbit settlement, and home to the biggest mushroom farm in all of Brockmoor. Frequented by jays, sparrows and the occasional hawk, the Main Burrow is a welcome-no-predators-allowed kind of place. * Now this isn't about the Burrow, but I don't exactly have another section for it, so here goes: prey and predators alike all follow and live by the food chain, the one set of rules by which all animals live. It's unheard of for any animal to break it. Reefsand. The little island down on the bottom of the map shaped like a tooth. Home to a very large number of foxes, and also known as the Hunter's Island because of the number of predators that live there. Foxes, stoats, ferrets, pine martens - even some badgers get lost on their way to the Rock Pile, and find themselves at a haven for hunters. And with that... The Rock Pile. Aptly named, this 12-or-so foot tall mound of basketball-sized rocks is one of the centerpieces of badger tradition. Every season, all the badgers who are of age travel to Buzzard Cliffs to collect their boulder, a literal milestone, and begin the customary trek through Brockmoor to bring their milestone to rest with the milestones of their ancestors. I honestly really like this concept. Pine Palace. Not pine like pine trees, but pine as in pine marten, a small weasel-like carnivore that is only found at Pine Palace, where their queen resides. Extremely loyal and doggedly stubborn, these little flesheaters are formidable allies in any war, though for the most part they remain neutral. They only fight if their home or queen is in danger, otherwise they stay and defend said home and queen. Staggrove. The preferred grazing spot of many herds of red deer, who never leave unless they can see the danger staring them in the face. Also stubborn, and a very peaceful species, they always manage to win debates with their easygoing logic of "it's better for the herd if we stay. our ancestors died here, and so will we. there's nothing we can do to stop the food chain." They also have an appointed monarch as leader, though it's almost always a stag. Raftshore. The biggest colony of otters, Raftshore otters and Riverglen otters used to be one until civil war broke out, some otters turning to boats and others sticking with the tried-and-true swimming techniques. Raftshore otters use boats to fish, and troops of houseboats are not an uncommon sight. Their leader is a Chieftain. Larksong. Home to the biggest population of birds of prey anywhere in Brockmoor, it's not uncommon for Larksong and Raftshore to fight over the fish rations and rights. Buzzard Cliffs. The mountain range that the buzzards dominate is infamous for picking off climbers as they climb. The buzzards are generally wise, but also hotheaded and tend to kill before they think. Sunrock. Possibly the only creatures who can live around buzzards are adders, the inhabitants of Sunrock and the terrors of the cliffs. Nobody really knows which mountain is the Sunrock, which only leads to the infamy of the mountain range. Because of this, the adders and buzzards usually live in peace, left to their own devices and perfectly content. The Tree. The place where leaders of every colony or habitat of animals come together once a year to address problems, concerns and other important matters, such as "i don't like the way the foxes style their tails". Anybeast at the Tree is not allowed to be hurt, killed or mauled in any way. That said, The Tree can only be used for diplomatic purposes (nobody can stay there for a year, living in peace just because they're at The Tree) Quail Plains. These preybirds are plentiful here, and they rule their plains with surprising authority. Of course, they're never original with their threats. An intruder? Chuck him in the river. Someone violated the treaty of The Tree? Chuck him in the river. Some foxes cheated the merchants out of a bargain? Chuck him in the river. (cont)
FULLSCREEN RECOMMENDED AND THEN COME BACK HERE AND READ THIS (cont from instructions because I ran out of characters) Riverglen. Home to the otters who swim, using harpoons and underwater blow darts to catch their fish. Cunning and sneaky, Riverglen otters are sometimes unjustly referred to as seafoxes. Two lone badgers live on the Riverglen/Brockmoor border, and they are recognized as a part of the Riverglen community. Besides, their size and strength comes in handy when hauling up that season's salmon haul. Swift is a Riverglen otter (mwahahaha behold my otter character's name) Clowder Hills. The one place in all of Brockmoor where wildcats reside. To get there you have to cross the Seal Harbour, home to carnivorous seals. They generally are left to their own devices, and it's very unlikely to see one off-island. ____________________________________________ comment if you'd want to see the story that tags along with this, and if you have any questions! I made the map on https://www.redblobgames.com/maps/mapgen4/ Brockmoor is an actual location in Brockmoor, but it has access points to any and all territories and that's why it's just bolder on the map. All traditions, landmarks and the histories behind them, as well as the story belong to ME, @Writer_H , so no touchie please. Questions are welcome, and please tell if I've missed something or you want me to elaborate. Music is a Scottish jig thing that I actually really like and will be using with all future Brockmoor / Instinct thingamajiggies. * Artemis, le MC, lives/lived at le Main Burrow -------------------------------------------------------------------------- *will put story description thing here if enough people want to read it* -------------------------------------------------------------------------- #brockmoor #instinct #brockmoor #Writer_H #stories #instinct
