hey gaymers ^w^ happy pride month ehehe <333 before i start posting pride art n such, i wanted to talk about something that has been bothering me for a while. a day or two ago, i got a comment from someone about my characters for a comic series i'm working on. "this isn't realistic. why are all your characters lgbtq+??" this. put me off a bit. as most of you (should) know, we live in a very heteronormative society. the majority of characters in modern media are heterosexual/cisgender. personally, i find this frustrating. it's hard for me to get connected with a couple, character, or even a show that is heteronormative or just completely straight. not because i see straight people as less than me, but because i'm gay and trans myself. that's why gay representation in modern media is something that excites me and attracts me more to whatever i'm watching/reading! because i connect more to the characters :D so,, why is all my characters being gay labelled as "unrealistic," but all the characters being straight in our heteronormative media... not?? i will agree that both are unrealistic. but lets take into consideration something: all my characters from my comic are 2d; the whole world is unrealistic!! that's why its called a "fantasy." but most heteronormative culture is found in realistic fiction. not so realistic now, huh? so no. i'm not going to change *my* characters to be straight and cisgendered. i couldn't care less if i'm "erasing straight representation." if i am, thats great!! i'm happy i am. because every time straight representation is erased, it makes room for queer representation. so get out of the way, and stop making stuff up just to be part of a minority. ( hopefully this made sense lmao, i was just kinda rambling ) have a happy pride month everybody! stay safe and remember you're valid and don't let anyone else say otherwise <33
