TW: Ranting right so this is kinda random but we recently watched an old movie, Ms.Doubtfire. Which is truly a good movie! Robin Williams is in it, and the main character is cross-dressing the entire movie. And cross-dressing is y e s. Thing is though, there are jabs. When calling as somebody else to make Ms.Doubtfire seem the perfect nanny, Daniel (the main character) says (in a different voice) "Oh I don't deal with boys because I used to be one." Which is e x t r e m e l y transphobic. THEN THE OTHER PERSON LEGiT HANGS UP AND SAYS "Yikes." LIKE EXCUSE ME? Then I looked at it and really felt as if the entire concept of the movie is just mocking trans peeps and drag in general. Other than that and a few other small incidents, there's no large transphobia that's put out there. But really? He's doing this to be with his kids. C o o l. IF YOU WANT TO BE WITH THEM THEN GET A STABLE JOB AND A GOOD LIVING SPACE YOU WERE T O L D THIS ALREADY. It just seems as if there are so many ways that they could've gone about the movie w i t h o u t doing this and implying the mockery here. Like wth guys seriously even though drag may not have been widely acknowledged when that movie was set and made it still existed! it was still widely spread! And while trans people weren't as accepted by society as they are now (heck there are still those Karens out there who all need a good pan to the head-) tHEY STILL EXISTED. Closeted or not, seen or not, they're there. *Let this be known: I neither do drag or am trans, so I am not speaking from experience. I never could, and there are things that are best they say.*
song is papa's got a brand new bag by james brown, this was actually in the movie. and heck it's actually a pretty good song. Ms.Doubtfire to the respective producers and all that. Oh yea! Guys, just realized I'm nearing 200 (*cough* 90% is either MRP or the fancult *cough*) and seriously, thanks a lot! I'll probably be dumping a lot of stuff (mostly artssss, but traditional, and a tour of ✨ Frell ✨, but that'll probably wait for august for F i n l e y.) and maybe a PMATA (pretty much anything to adopt) will be coming your way as well! BUT AOFDIS This is more personal but while we were watching the movie my dad started explaining drag to me. I- *odd noises* I k n o w what drag is sir, I haven't been living under a rock! There are so many tv shows and movies from his time that are homophobic and racist in so many ways and it p a i n s me. it seriously pained me to watch this (but Robin Williams guys) and I honestly h a t e how he keeps going on and on about these shows from his childhood when said shows are discriminating? I'm sorry. I just- no.
