-Estimates by me may differ from official reports- Hurricane Iota was a destructive and deadly Hurricane that struck Central America in November. It killed 40 to 100 people and caused 1.4 Billion dollars in damages. On November 12th, 2020 a tropical wave formed southwest of Puerto Rico. The wave moved slowly across the Central Caribbean. By the 14th, It then strengthened into Tropical Depression 31. Later that day, it became tropical storm Iota. Iota moved southwest ,then northwest, before reaching hurricane status. As it moved due west, it rapidly intensified to Category 5 status. It would then make landfall 15 miles south of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. The storm caused $564 Million in damages and killed over 40 in Nicaragua. The storm by the NHC was a category 4 after reanalysis of the season, but based on impressive satellite imagery, I believe Iota briefly reached category 5 status. Thank you so much for watching!
