Olmkit peeked out from the ferns covering the entryway to the nursery, and sniffed the musky air. It was fresh from the rain, just how he liked it, but he wasn't thinking about small things he enjoyed at the moment. All he wanted was the truth. He remembered his older sister Geckokit and her teasing tricks and surprises on him when they were little, and she wasn't sick with an unknown sickness. "It was so simple then..." he murmured under his breath. Geckokit was now in the medicine den, away from the rest of the Clan, dieing in her nest. Olmkit missed her and her annoying pelt. He never wished for her to get this sick when she ran off in the rain against the rules. Olmkit blamed himself for Geckokit's falling of sickness. He should have tried harder to keep her back at camp. He shouldn't have hoped for her to get caught in the rain and got lost to learn a lesson. His mother, Codsnout, didn't know about his past wishes. She only told him she was happy he didn't go with her. Olmkit and Codsnout were so thankful for the loner that found Geckokit in the storm, but he knew Codsnout knew more about it. Before he concluded to confront his mother, a tan pelt brushed his side. He heard a purr and turned around to see Glowkit look up at him with shining eyes. "Hi Olmkit!" she meowed with a big grin on her face. "Me and Flurrykit are bored and know you make the best games. Can you make one up for us?" Olmkit shot a look at the trees around the exit to the camp, where Codsnout was strolling away with the rest of her hunting patrol. He sighed evenly. "Sure Glowkit," he said. Olmkit always admired the little she-cat, because she had everything Olmkit wanted. Courage, bravery, independence, and a sibling who could always be by her side. Glowkit is what Olmkit used to be, before Geckokit got sick. Olmkit shook off all the memories of his younger kithood and pricked his ears to the clearing close to the nursery, where Flurrykit was dazily watching a passing firefly buzz by. Olmkit thought for a moment, then grinned and said, "Whoever catches that firefly first gets the softest moss from the apprentices!" Glowkit and Flurrykit wisped around and leaped at the doomed firefly. Glowkit sqealed in delight, the firefly's wings in her claws. Flurrykit looked at his own sadly, then huffed and trotted back to the nursery. Olmkit softly smiled at Glowkit as she tapped at the firefly, then looked up at him and beamed. Olmkit blinked at her, then turned around and padded to the nursery. With Geckokit in her deathbed, maybe Glowkit could be his sister... Olmkit didn't realize he had napped in his nest, and had woken up to see his mother Codsnout curl her tail around him and nose his side. She smiled silently, but Olmkit remembered to question her about the rogue that had brought Geckokit back to the camp.
