For a very long time the griffin kept beating the phoenix, and reigned terror over your nation using the power and immortality of it's host, and people (not knowing what was happening inside him) hated him. but every time the griffin defeated the phoenix, it came back, stronger, until the final battle where it beat the evil griffin.
