Did you have a good day?” I ask cheerfully as Eliza’s face pops up on my screen, giving a little wave. “I did! I talked to Mary about the gala a couple days ago, and she asked if she could come. I hope it’s okay that I said yes,” she adds, messing with a piece of her hair nervously. “She also wanted to bring someone else… is that okay too?” I laugh and give her a small nod. “Please, dear, bring anyone you want to. Your parents could even come, if they’re interested!” She shakes her head a little, smiling. “I’m not so sure they would like that… My mom hates parties. But thanks for the offer.” “Of course. It’s hard to believe I’ll be back in just under two weeks,” I say with a sigh, leaning back in my chair. “I can’t wait to see you again, darling!” She blushes, embarrassed, and I can’t help but crack a small smile at how cute she looks. “A-aw, thanks. I can’t wait to see you either.” I try not to blush as well, and distract both of us by suddenly saying, “How did the ring shopping with Undyne and Toriel go?” “Oh, actually, a few more people came along. Do you know those skeletons Sans and Papyrus?” I blink, startled. “Yes, I do! Did they join you?” “Yeah, along with Frisk. It was nice to finally meet them,” she adds. “I didn’t expect to make so many friends so quickly, honestly, especially considering the circumstances. I already have plans to meet up with some of them again!” “That’s amazing! It really is quite astonishing how wonderfully you’ve broken out of your shell.” Suddenly I remember something, and I gasp. “OH!! Sorry to interrupt, darling, but I completely forgot to tell you about something exciting happening soon!!” She tilts her head a little, looking at me curiously. “What’s that, now?” I tap the nerves on my arm, making sure she can see them. “The day after I arrive back home, Alphys has booked my very last nervous system appointment!” Eliza’s eyes fly wide open, her jaw dropping. “No way! So your nervous system is almost finished?!” “Absolutely, my dear! I can’t wait to try that matcha-peanut-butter smoothie bowl you like so much. An odd flavor combination, I won’t lie, but I’m sure it’s better than it sounds.” She stares at me, dumbfounded. “You… you remember my smoothie bowl order?” she laughs in surprise. “But, t-that was months ago! Why did you take note of that?” “Oh, I just happened to remember. Anywho, have you thought any more about the upcoming gala?” I suddenly ask, leaning forward with interest. “I know you were a little nervous about it because of your prosthetic.” Eliza folds her hands in her lap thoughtfully. “I’ve done some thinking, and I believe it will be fine. I’ll just avoid dancing.” “No dancing?” I gasp. “Why, Eliza, that’s where the real fun of a party is! Are you sure? Be honest!” She hesitates, and I can see a look of apprehension cross her face. “Well… Of course, that’s not to say I wouldn’t like to dance. I’m not great at it, but you’re right, it’s a lot of fun. But I only really have fun doing it when there aren’t dozens of people around,” she adds, her cheeks flushing. “I’m too nervous to dance in front of a bunch of strangers. Plus, like I mentioned last time, my prosthetic will only make things worse. What if I trip and fall onto someone, or make a fool of myself? I- I wouldn’t want to embarrass you as a guest at your party, after all, so it’s r-really not worth it--” “Darling, you’re spiraling again,” I cut in gently, concerned. “It’s really all right if you’d rather not dance. But, if you do want to, then I want you to know that nobody is going to judge you. And if they do, I’ll pay my agents to track down their dirty secrets on the Internet and blackmail them into a humiliating apology!” I give her a malicious grin. “Doesn’t that sound just fabulous?”
^^^ READ INSTRUCTIONS SECTION FIRST ^^^ She tries to stifle a laugh, but fails miserably. “That’s a little extreme!” she exclaims. “Maybe something that wouldn’t destroy their lives. How about an embarrassing prank? Now that would be good revenge.” “I’ll start planning an elaborate series of pranks for the party, then, waiting to be triggered by the one who dares to insult the lovely Elizabeth Rutherford,” I joke dramatically. “Lovely? Oh my, Mettaton, no need to flatter me.” Her tone catches me severely off-guard. Was it just me, or did she sound oddly… flirtatious? She seems to notice the way it sounded at the exact same time I do, judging by the way her eyes suddenly widen owlishly and her cheeks flush. “U-u-uh, hey, I think Mary is calling me,” she says hastily. “Sorry, I gotta go!” “Wait, but I don’t hear--” “I’ll think more about dancing at the gala. Thanks for talking! Bye!!” She frantically hangs up, leaving me staring at my phone, dumbfounded.
