Chapter Eight- I led Mossyshine back to camp, nearly crying. The blackness darker than me had spread to her shoulders. "I feel so cold," Mossyshine murmured. "We'll get you back to Laurelwing," I said. "She'll know what to do." "But does she?" I wondered to myself. When we got back, Laurelwing raced over. "What happened?!" She asked. "We were attacked by..." I explained what had happened. "No." Laurelwing breathed. "The darkness is already growing stronger, then. We have to stop it soon." "What about Mossyshine?" I asked. "Can we do something about her?" Laurelwing looked at me, her expression pained. "No." She meowed. "She's... already too far gone." "I won't give up on her," I promised, crying. "I can't." I gazed at where Mossyshine was now lying in a nest, curled up into a tight ball. Laurelwing laid a tail on my shoulder, and then walked away. I sat down besides Mossyshine. "You've got to be okay," I meowed, stroking her fur. "You're going to be okay." Mossyshine blanched at the darkness in her fur, which was everywhere except on her chest, but was coming closer to coloring her fur pure black. "I... Tansysong... I don't think so..." She murmered. "You're going to be! You've got to be!" I begged. "Tansysong," she said suddenly, her voice shaking, as her fur became all black. She stared at her paws."Get away from me. Now." Something in my friend's voice was so panicked I froze. "No. I won't leave you." I said. Mossyshine looked up at me then, her sparkling green eyes now dull and brittle, overlaid with a black shimmer. "All better for me, then." She hissed in a slippery voice that was so unlike her own. I knew that voice. "Bearshine," I hissed.
