oof I procrastinated on this so much sorry- anywaaays here's my entry I decided to turn the design into a dragon bc dragons yay click or press space 1. full piece with shading and lighting 2. a sketch page/ref thingy (there's a sketch of my dragon oc there as well (the one that says sapphire under it) just because I wanted to try drawing them next to each other :>) 3. a v messy sketch of a part of the backstory that I drew super fast but decided to include anyways bc thats how I imagine it (its underwater btw, and in the story there's another character but I didnt include her) bio time ig? name: Ash pronouns: currently uses they/them (though is leaning a bit towards he/him) personality: pretty chill, but also mischievous. they're really good at winning an argument with barely any words and basically never yell. they also do and wear whatever they want. likes: standing out, listening to others talk, fruity desserts (ex: lemon merengue tarts), being alone sometimes dislikes: being cold, anything that's super sweet, being submerged in water, seeing others uncomfortable biggest fear: being near/in any body of water backstory (im feeling a tad bit dark today, so there is one death, im warning you): Ash's family lived on an island. the island was in the middle of the ocean, with no other land in sight. it had been created by a volcano, and said volcano stood tall and proud in the middle of the island. Ash and their family lived on its slopes. they hunted in the surrounding forests of the island, and loved flying and dipping low over the lava rivers than ran down the volcano. This volcano sometimes erupted, but they were dragons, and didnt have any problem surviving the heat or ash that floated through the air. Ash's family had just hatched a newborn dragonet, her scales a deep black speckled with a few purple and brilliant red highlights. they named her Obsidian. However, soon after their sister had been born, there was a terrible earthquake. it shook the island, and with it, half the volcano collapsed. stone and magma alike rumbled down the island, crashing through the trees, destroying all life until it met the sea. Once the ground had started shaking, Ash's family had leapt into the air, circling around their home to wait out the disaster. However, once the ground had stopped shaking and the lava had stopped exploding outwards, they realized that most of the island had been destroyed. the forest had turned into a field of magma and ash, and the volcano was halfway collapsed. there was nowhere they could live anymore. Ash's family had just decided to fly across the sea until they saw land when it started to rain. the drops sizzled and hissed when they hit the magma, leaving little traces of steam all over the island. The family handed off dragonets to the strongest fliers, while others were instructed to carry the small food supply they had. Ash had been told to carry their sister, Obsidian. With one last glance at the island, the dragon family flew into the rising storm. For a day they flew over the sea. it rained and rained as they travelled, causing the sea below to surge and froth. By the time the sun came out, everyone was getting weary and tired of the same sight of endless ocean. But they had no other choice than to just keep going. A few hours later, it stormed again, this one stronger and more dangerous than the earlier rain. thunder boomed through the sky, and lightning struck through the clouds. the rain and wind made it nearly impossible to fly, and they kept getting thrown around by the storm. obsidian wailed as she was tossed around wish Ash. she was still too young to speak their language, and instead yelped and cried out as they wrestled their way through the storm. a little while later, however, they heard a cry from the front of the group. Apparently there was a tiny island, barely visible through the storm, that some were trying to land on. Ash swooped low to try and grab the rocky spires, but was instead thrown sideways by a gale that roared like a god. Obsidian and Ash careened into the sea, water clogging their wings and bubbles and darkness obscuring their vision. the ocean surged around Ash, and suddenly they were spun thorough the water by a vicious current and were slammed into the ocean floor. Ash didn't hear anything, only struggled through the waves, trying to reach the surface. However, halfway there, Obsidian was pulled free by a current. And that's when Ash realized their sister was dead. She must have been crushed when they had been thrown to the ocean floor, for she was completely still, floating through the water like a piece of driftwood. Ash sunk back down to the floor, no longer fighting the waves. had they just killed their sister? certainly not on purpose, but Ash still felt the guilt hit hard, like the wave of heat that rolled over the island whenever the volcano erupted.
backstory (continued): Ash eventually made their way to the surface, struggling with every movement, fighting to keep their head above the waves. the storm was still raging hard. In the distance, Ash could barely make out a teensy island with dragons flying around it. it was so far away. they must've gotten thrown off course by the wind. Ash didn't think they had the energy to fly that far. And what would they tell their family, if or when they finally reached them? how would they explain what had happened? Ash couldn't bear to face them, not with news of the death of Obsidian. They would probably shun Ash, maybe abandon them. After all, they had killed one of their dragonets. Ash took a deep breath and turned, swimming in the opposite direction, moving farther and farther away from their family. Ash eventually reached land, washing up on the shore of some unknown continent. the rain had stopped, and the sun was shining brilliantly on the sea. Ash still felt horrible, weighed down by grief and guilt. They didn't know how long they'd swam, or how far for that matter, only knew that they were too far away and too lost to find their way back to their family. Ash faced the forest that lined the beach and plunged into it, eager to get away from that wretched ocean and its wretched storms. They were hoping to start a new life on this land, a life where their home couldn't be destroyed by magma, where storms out at sea couldn't kill their family members. Ash spread their wings and flew far, far away from the water, hoping they never had to lay eyes on it again. ------------------------------------------ I apologize for any capitalization or grammar errors, I tend to forget about proper sentence formatting when im writing a backstory xD anyways, thats all :) credits: art: @-Xaiyalia- program: procreate design: @SalamanderSocks music: EveryTime I Cry by Ava Max <3
