◖ varying sentence structure - a workshop! ◗ ○ hello everyone! welcome ^^ space, arrow keys, or tap to navigate; enjoy :) ○ there are five sections: introduction to sentence structure, types of sentence structure, varying sentence structure, pacing, and conclusion. it's quite a lot of text (around 2k words, even after editing aa) but hopefully the sections and bolding/colors help! ○ this was fun and interesting to write, so I hope you got something out of it ^^ (though I procrastinated and ended up writing the whole thing in a few days at the end of june xD) ○ if you have any questions, please ask me! ◖ activity ◗ ○ Revisit one of your previous writing pieces and pick out a short section of about 200 words. Read it over and pay specific attention to the sentence structures and lengths you used in the passage. Can the sentence structure use more variety, or be modified to fit with the pacing of the scene? Rewrite the passage you picked out with the techniques you’ve learned to vary sentence structure. After you finish, compare the old version with the rewritten one and see whether your edits affect the experience of reading the passage. Write (rewrite) 200 words or more to gain 400 points for your cabin! ◖ credits ◗ ○ all writing by me, thumbnail lettered by me, graphics from canva ○ @Stariqe for giving super helpful critique - thank you so so much starr! <3 ○ @Sunshine_The_Rainbow, @pitau, @Chromesthesia and @apart-- for giving your opinions on how sentence length/structure affects pacing - which really helped, thanks ^^ ○ helpful sites I used: https://www.masterclass.com/articles/how-to-vary-sentence-structure-in-your-writing#7-ways-to-vary-sentence-structure, https://www.literacyideas.com/a-guide-to-sentence-structure, https://academicguides.waldenu.edu/writingcenter/scholarlyvoice/sentencestructure ○ music is the instrumental version of usotsuki (from a whisker away) by yorushika :) ○ swc! hehe - go dystopian <3
