Trans guy here who binds, I'd recommend only binding for at most 6-8 hours a day, and be sure to take breaks throughout! If you are closeted but still want/need a binder, GC2B has really discreet packages, and accepts Visa gift cards ^^ GC2B also sends a message within the package on how to take care of both yourself, and your binder. I wouldn't recommend trying to make your own, I promise I understand why you'd want to, I've been there, but the uneven compression from a DIY binder can really hurt your ribs if you aren't careful. Also, if you are using a DIY binder, please do not try to use it as long as a professionally made one!! You could hurt yourself. Any pain is a sign to stop, and not bind for a while, at the very least until the pain goes away. Finally, binders will not make your chest totally flat, but that's normal. Even people with naturally flat chests are do not have totally flat chests! Don't beat yourself up if you aren't as flat chested as you want to be I promise that's normal! When it comes to first getting your binder, you are going to want to work your way up to 8 hours slowly, and make sure to have at least one day as a "break day"! Recapping the most important points: 8 hours tops! Be careful when going DIY! It's okay, and perfectly normal, to not to have a totally flat chest when binding! Finally, any pain means stop and take off the binder!
