A very peculiar argument about “1+1” The voice in this animation is bad due to my mic so I’ve prepared a transcript for you guys so that it can be easier for you. TRANSCRIPT: Worm: Hey Alan! Hey Alan! (Shouts). Ant: Yes? Worm: So I’ve been thinking about the answer to this question for a long time, but still can’t come up with the solution. Ant: Oh and what is that question? Worm: It’s basically about 1 + 1. Ant: 1 + 1? (Chuckles) Are you kidding? Worm: No, because 1 + 1 equals to 2 and 1 + 1 also equals to 11. See what I mean? Ant: Hmm, 1 + 1 might be 11 but actually that’s not the case because it’s 2. Here’s why: Ant: If you add 1 + 1 as an amount, then it equals to 2, but if you add 1 + 1 as a string, then it equals to 11. See what I mean? Worm: What does a string have to do with this anyway? This is a maths question, not something about strings. Ant: No, no, no by strings I mean joining them together, like 1 + 1 makes 11, see? Worm: But don’t strings join things together in a knot, like for example, if you take an apple and label it 1 and another apple and label it 1 as well, doesn’t that make 11 apples? Ant: Yes but only their name will be 11 apples because their different names were joined together to make 11 apples, but the amount will be 2 apples. Do you get it now? Worm: But then for example, if we add 2 apples together, its amount is 2 but then we also name it 2 apples as well. Isn’t that true? Ant: Ummmmm, let’s just do our own work. I’ll read my book and you make your music. Let’s forget you even asked this question. Just go and do your work. Worm: But, but. Worm: Sheeesh
This is my first ever animation and my first upload. Hope you enjoy it! (I also hid an easter egg in this animation. See if you can find it.)
