hello people seem to like these kinda so here we are again? tbh i'm kinda only posting this to get my profile aesthetic because i need one more project to be ~yellow~ hello. I am back with another installation in the highly anticipated, highly praised Rambles From Alex series [/j /lh]. read the intro for the other ones because it's 3am where I live and I am making you go look at the other disclaimers instead of copying and pasting them. anywho, hello there, hope you drink water and sleep and stuff! this is the second part to my personality guide, which is just stuff I keep in mind when rping a character! there are two major principles that drive my character's personalities and those are exaggeration [last project about this covered it completely] and fear! that exclamation mark looks way too happy. but yes, fear is a major driving force on all of my characters. there are roughly two types of character fears, internal and external. internal character fears are things such as a fear of failure, a fear of being forgotten, a fear of losing people close to them/hurting people close to them, a fear of being out of control, a fear of disappointing others-- the list is endless! These fears come from inside and are typically [though not always] deeper than external fears, and therefore impact character in a bigger way. external character fears are phobias like water, lightning, heights, even death-- these are all external things that your character would be scared of in specific situations, such as rps that involve these things. the two fears can go hand in hand-- perhaps you have a character who is scared of meeting new people [external fear] because he's also scared of being thought of as weird or unlikable! these can intertwine in fun ways all the time. so. back to the actual guide! these fears are a great way to keep a character to specific motivations, as well as to guess their motives in different scenarios. major fears can guide people's entire lives. for example, Legend was a cat who feared being forgotten. therefore, he was confident, arrogant, and memorable all the time for fear that otherwise, he'd be to generic to stand out! as you can see, this fear played a massive part in how he presented himself to others and how he guided his own life. play with these fears-- ask what traits and characteristics these could imprint on your character and how they'd deal with these fears daily. it makes a big different, as well as giving your character really really easy personality traits and weaknesses/strengths! ok, this is the final part and is less important-- why does your character have these fears? perhaps it's something from their childhood, or it holds a deeper meaning in their lives. it doesn't have to have a super-complicated backstory, but sometimes fears just slide perfectly into place. is your character unwaveringly loyal and has also lost a lot of close friends? perhaps they're afraid of their friends leaving them behind, or liking someone else more than them. of course, fears can be for no apparent reason either, as long as they stay in line with your character's personality! tl;dr-- fear is very important when rping a character because it's an easy-to-ingrain flaw that can be present in all forms of their life, plus it's realistic and can be symbolic and stuff. now hydrate and take a nap.
am not a professional. take everything with a grain of salt. had this written out for a while but motivation to post words go brrr
