WOOO HEY GUYS!!!! i had major art block for a bit, but im back now and kicking!!!!! what happened was i started listening to the adventure zone (balance), and, oh boy, was i just supposed to NOT binge the whole thing in two weeks?? i intermittently drew this stuff and played minecraft while i listened. it was great fun. 1: this was actually the reason all of this started!! i just had this image in my head for kate bush's song "hounds of love", and i like, NEEDED to draw it you know? so i turned on taz and got working, and haven't stopped since. 2: "a case of the rorschachs"! a satire on 2000's era teen movies. from left to right, we have punch cruikshank, an aroace, maniacal queen bee; her older sister pierce, a trans punk who's just trying to keep herself sane; maiden paris, an anarchist thembo who's pure of heart and empty of wallet; cave tuskovich and brain octain, a guy of few words who's translator to his friend of many; robbery arson patrick, a trans guy of sharp wit and zero hecks; and caleb davis, the sophomore serial killer they're trying to stop. 3: the character "kung fu" from one of my favorite movies, hausu! its a wacky japanese horror movie, though it's more laughs than frights. super surreal, super campy, super great. 4: redraw of another portrait, this time of madame de pompadour dressed as our lady artemis! i did a blending technique here i haven't done in a while, you'll see it again soon. 5: punch again! not one of my favorites.... monochrome outfits are so last week. i like how i got her makeup right, though! i feel like it didn't capture her role within the story right, she's sort of a benefactor of the team.... they've got the ideas and the motivations, and she's got the funds and the unfiltered gall to pull it off. 6: addie and moze pray from a fantastic movie, called paper moon! its from director peter bogdanovich and stars a father/daughter con duo scamming their way across the midwest. great stuff. 7: been watching the planet of the apes movies with my mom and brother recently, and doctor zira has GOT to be one of the best film characters of like, all time. something i really appreciated was that they managed to give her like, a cute 60's hairdo without compromising her apehood. there's nothing i hate more than overfeminizing female animals 8: probably my least favorite from this batch, was made just because i HAD to draw bill and ted eventually, you know? they're also super off-model, so that doesnt help.... ill get these boys right one day 9: okay THIS marks the start of my new alternative art style, and its the best!!!! its like, psychedelic storybook kind of vibes. watching fry and laurie sketches on youtube has been one of my favorite activities this year, and i always felt they looked like cartoon characters, so i decided to put my skills to use! 10: i hadn't drawn a dragon in far too long, but turns out ya boy's still got it! my favorite girl, clearsight, of course. i tried to make her look extra toony, as all dragons should, and i love how it came out. 11: woooo JOHN MULANEY!!! love that guy..... tried to make the background be reminiscent of the radio city stage, and the white outline came to be since the flat color looked odd against the stripes. anyway yeah john mulaney!!! 12: this is an ellen greene stan blog. get out if you hate ellen greene. i realized halfway through this totally should've been lineless, but what can you do? you'll also notice i sacrificed anatomy for emotion here, which is something everyone should try once in a while. 13: been meaning to draw this literally since i watched the movie, but it's fanart for marie antoinette (2006)! i think some things really blend into each other too much, but that cant be avoided when youre really only working with like, two colors 14: i legit ran out of ideas. so for a bit i focused less on fan art and more on random characters. here's a little werewolf kid, in what appears to be..... a hospital gown??? dunno. 15: this was GONNA be a half lineless/half lined type thing and it was gonna be super cool, but i got tired. this guy is from, like, a 1960/70's shakespearean time travel comedy. not any one of them in particular, that was just the vibe i was going for. 16: someone every trans guy should recognize, skye! he existed as a while as a form of propaganda against nondysphoric trans people (especially trans men), but as opinions soured toward transmedicalist views he became sort of an icon of gender-nonconforming transmasculinity. decided to honor him here. freaking loved doing the galaxy sweater, dude!!!!! 17: one day when i'm a famous filmmaker, im going to blend together glam rock motifs and rococo sensibility to create an animated musical biopic of french opera singer/duelist julie d'aubigny, and it's going to be AWESOME. i realized, though, after finishing this, that she looks quite a lot like a magical girl!
18: literally just a guy hanging out. realized id never properly drawn someone with cornrows and decided to fix that. he's got his eyeshadow he's got his lawn chair he's chillin. 19: read a cute french picture book a while back that was a mixed-up take on little red riding hood, where SHE was actually a wolf. it was cute 20: woooooo old people let's go!!! i actually think wrinkles are super fun to draw.. old people are so cool. got that galaxy pattern here again!! 21: aw man look its our buddy dionysus! say hi everbody. yet again with the two-color palette..... bold choice from america's top model 22: tried to get myself pumped back up with a group portrait, and who's better to portray than the ol' rorschach gang??? you may notice i've changed a few of their races, i thought having an all white cast would be rude. anyway i mostly went like, thematically when deciding, maiden is viewed by caleb as more aggressive than they actually are while caleb completely infantilizes rob, and for punch and pierce i just went logistically: their parents are british superspies, and pakistani-british people are a pretty common occurrence (also im just a white kid doing my best here, if any of this is offensive please let me know!! i want to show my best work even in my underwritten, never to be green lighted screenplays) 23: the fabulous alien woman JUNO BIRCH, a drag queen so cool jk rowling blocked her on twitter. check out her youtube channel and also she does sculptures! 24: END CAPITALISM!!! while contrapoints may regret making tabby such a sympathetic figure, i dont because it means i get to make self-indulgent fanart while listening to dnd podcasts. i love the movement i got out of her here, even if the wind doesnt really work. 25: abyssal chicken i drew after a conversation with my friends! i miss back in like december 2019 when all my drawings had super unecessary line details, that was so fun 26: CLOWN!!!! HONK HONK!!!! i love clowns, so much so ive genuinely considered becoming one. like, multiple times. 27: shout out to abigail thorn, the coolest girl i know! her coming out was genuinely one of the happiest moments of my entire life. i figured out how to recapture the magic of my earlier lineless works here- i was focusing too much on compensating for the lack of lines, rather than just working with contrast and color and character like i was supposed to be doing. 28: i love the youtuber mars bars, they do omnichord covers of pop songs. my favorite so far has been their cover of slipping through my fingers by abba. they also have an impeccable fashion sense! i love how i did the light here- while it's not perfect, my tillie walden "i'm obsessed with random shapes" phase was something to be cherished 29: last one! punch and rob, the emotional center of the entire story. they exist as opposites and yet are best friends. i love friends!! i hate when stories put too much emphasis on romance or whatever...... yuck. when will people grow up and realize what's really important is doing improv comedy with your bros at 10:30 pm? anyway, i love this piece, legitimately one of my favorites ever. i got the color palette DOWN, the anatomy's tight, the characters come through and ive got props!! it's 1/87th of a car, people!!! woo!! anyway! that was fun! i was mostly really proud of my lack of dependence on filters recently, those had been ruling my artwork for a good few months. also, i found out i really like using yellow as a background. i'm gonna do a group photo of the player characters from balance soon enough, and i'll give my (overjoyed and amped-up) hot take of the arc there!!!! see you then!!!!
