A great darkness has come upon us, Luigi. Ai remember when the Switch was first announced... We decided to truly take care of this console. We truly gave it our all. And it payed off. The clamor was unbelievable. The fans were happier than ever, buying our console left and right. Just a year before, we were the laffing stock of the entire gaming industry. We ate the clay of the Earth. We made ex box look good by comparison. And then there we were, on top of the world. Ai remember when Ultimate was first announced. Ai made a promise to Peach. Ai promised that we would never again suffer the humiliation that we did in the Wii U days. Ai promised her that we would be the shining star of the industry forever. She is gone now. I can't stand to think of what she would say if she were still here. Let's not kid ourselves, Luigi. We've been resting on our laurels for years. Hype for the switch has been going slowly down since the release of Ultimate. Our recent decisions haven't been of much help. Fifty nine ninety nine for an Wii game? Mama mia, ahimè! Still... even if we got our act together, even if we could satisfy the fans... What can even be done? A 3D Mario game, characters for smash, a new Metroid Prime... or at least... the promise of one. In all honesty, how much more do our fans have to look forward to? They have what they've wanted for years. It will take years before we can have another hype train like we had in twenty seventeen and eighteen There is a desert ahead of us, Luigi, a desert free of anticipation or hope. It's a long, hard way across. My bones are old and tired. Tell me, Luigi, in all honesty. Do you think I will live to see that next oasis? Do you think I will live to see the light of the sun of greatness again? Or will my bones have grateful rest beside my love before that sun rises again?
Song is a slowed-in-Scratch version of Ancient Forces from Civilization 5. This is an allegory for the downfall of Japanese in the nanochip industry. I had intentions to represent Pizza Tower Peppino as Taiwan but a life event sadly prevented me from fulfilling that vision.
