This week's writing dare was... search for pictures of landscapes and pick one that you DISLIKE. Now write a story set in that place! Without further ado, here you go! ~ The land was barren and deserted, the grass crunching underneath her claws. There were no signs of human interaction, the land preserved forever, safe from the change and destruction that followed humans wherever they went. A lake trailed through the field, climbing up the mountains and through the dust and dirt. Ahead, was a frozen mountain where the lake turned hard and icy, nature choosing its course to continue no longer. She left the ground, choosing her course as well. Her feathers shivered from the cold environment, instinctively seeking the warm home of humans she had left years ago. Her wings fluttered carefully behind her, drawing around her in a tight blanket, warmth and captivity at the same time. Starting to drop to the ground like a stone, her claws scratched at the air, trying to free her wings from their tight position. Clouds shuddered in, sun drawing to a close, and the bright bird stuck out in the drab environment like a fish out of water. But despite all of this, she smiled, no longer kept in a cage, unable to get a glimpse of the outside world. Distracted from the incoming landing, she dropped, her body becoming cold again. In her last moments, she was smiling. A free pet’s death but free none the less.
