Familiarity As I looked through my open window, the deepest shades of blue painted the sky. A speck of bright starlight slowly started gleaming with its silvery glow. Through the window, some wind brought itself in and gently caressed my cheeks. A little green leaf swiftly flew in and landed on my desk. I glanced at its curved and linear figure and then, it hit me. My hill of homework was finally noticed by my distracted self. I still had quite a lot of things to do. “Why do I make myself suffer?” I complained. I then checked my digital clock and the time read 7:58 pm. It was going to be 8 pm soon and I still haven’t answered any pieces of homework. I skimmed through all the papers and didn’t find anything I wanted to answer. This was quite unlike me, I must admit. I didn’t have the drive to answer my assignments and my grades were slowly getting lower. I would usually be the top of the class with passing marks almost all the time. Why, and how, did I change? I just brushed the feeling off and reluctantly picked the topmost worksheet. It happened to be Math, my favorite subject, but I felt different this time. I didn’t want to multiply the numbers nor find the value of x and whatnot. It just felt like this big and stupid chore for me. I glanced at it one more time and slammed it on my desk and said “I’ll just answer that later.” I plopped onto the fluff and warmth of my purple bed sheets and stared at the white popcorn ceiling. I didn’t notice it and I guess my eyes closed themselves. I’m pretty sure it was a stressful day, right? I didn’t really give a care in the world and drifted off to Dreamland or whatever it’s called. (continues in notes and credits since its too long)
I opened my eyes and appeared in a high-speeding train. I scanned it and there was only me and this busy-looking man. He had brown hair and was wearing a suit and orange tie. He sat in the row across from mine but instead of minding his own business, he was staring intently at me. Before I could take note of any of his other features, I looked at his eyes. They were violet and quite large, I must say, but it somehow felt very…familiar. I darted my eyes into the window on my left and it was color white. But as the train kept going, open fields filled with wheat and vast blue skies painted themselves in. These fields and skies just kept on flowing out and I stared in awe about the beauty I was witnessing. The sky was like an empty canvas slowly filling the white blankness with all the beauty that it could harness. “TWELVE HOURS” was written on the sky. “Twelve hours? What’s that have to do with anything?” I asked and thought to myself. I then noticed the train coming to a halt. “We’ve arrived at the destination.” boomed a robotic voice. I looked out the window and there wasn’t a station for the place we were in. All I could see was the golden wheat that covered the ground. For some reason, it felt so strange and familiar at the same time. Suddenly, some mysterious force pushed me to leave my seat and exit the train station. I walked out with the man trailing right behind me. He ran in front of me and once again, this mysterious force acted upon me and told me to follow him. I did so and we walked through a field of golden wheat. He stopped in his tracks and looked at this space of soil with nothing on it. I took a peek and out of nowhere, the word “UNIVERSE” appeared. I thought it was quite weird but before I could take another look at it, out of nowhere, it mysteriously vanished. “How did it do so?” I asked myself. As I slowly started to take in my surroundings, multiple questions raced inside my head. “Why am I here? Why did I just wake up in a train and follow a man who just stared at me? Who put me here? Who am I, even?” I questioned. I found the man staring intently at me, once again. I knew nothing about this place so the only thing I could do was run. I turned back and ran in the opposite direction for as fast as I could. The wind raged and the sky turned darker. Could I be controlling this place? I didn’t know and I couldn't really think. I increased my speed and looked back. This man was chasing me and I didn’t know why. Why was I so important in this place to the point where I could even change the weather? Why did this feel so familiar again? Then to add to the chaos, the sky started flashing the word “SWITCH.” What was with all these words? Then, the thought struck my mind. What if, these magically appearing words were somehow connected? I dug through my mind trying to remember what the words were. After about two minutes of running, I had to take a break and that’s when I remembered them. The words TWELVE HOURS, UNIVERSE, and SWITCH appeared in my head. I heard footsteps a few feet away from me and started running again. And as I ran, I was clamoring and trying to think of how those words were related. “TWELVE HOURS, UNIVERSE, SWITCH” “TWELVE HOURS, UNIVERSE, SWITCH” “TWELVE HOURS, UNIVERSE, SWITCH” “TWELVE HOURS, UNIVERSE, SWITCH” “TWELVE HOURS, UNIVERSE, SWITCH” Why did it echo in my head so much? Why am I forgetting things so easily? Finally, there it was. “TWELVE HOURS, UNIVERSE, SWITCH!” I exclaimed. I woke up in this bed. The bed sheets were purple and it felt fluffy and warm. I looked to my left and there was this desk with quite a lot of papers on it. The desk also had this digital clock and it was 7:58 am. Somehow, a sense of familiarity rushed through me. “Breakfast’s ready!” exclaimed a voice from downstairs. I looked at the door and outside it was this white void. It slowly painted itself with walls, a chandelier, and a desk. It was quite weird for a white void to suddenly fill itself in but I just brushed the feeling off and went downstairs. I looked at the person who was cooking and this man dressed in a suit and tie was busy cooking eggs. This weird sense of familiarity came over me again and I recognized his orange tie. I looked at his face and saw his large violet eyes. I glanced at his brown hair and it was like I saw it before somewhere. He looked at me intently and for some random reason, I felt like I wanted to flee. I ran through the door and what I saw felt like a sight seen so many times. Inscribed in big, capital letters were the words “TWELVE HOURS.” Why does this all feel so…familiar to me? ----------------------------------------------------------------- This took me 2 hours to write but honestly, it was all worth it.
