(let me know if i got any facts wrong / or any bad spelling! please also feel free to share youe tips down in the comments. I would also love it if you shared if you are doing anything from this project, or what else your family is doing to help the world) ♥ Hello everyone! Recently i've been worrying a bit about the environment, i'm going to be posting, hopefully regulary, about different ways you can help the environment. ♥ 1) The many Rs Some of you have probably heard of the three Rs- (reduce reuse recycle) but that's not all you can do to help reduce plastic pollution! repairing is also a good option- if you have a broken plastic chair, for example, just repair it! Rethinking is asking yourself whether you actually need something or how you can reduce the amount of resources you use. Buy things in bulk and bring your own bottles to school/work (probably the former here, lol). Share items such as books, lawnmowers, etc with your neighbours and friends repurposeing is slightly similar to reusing. When something breaks, reuse it for a different purpose! https://www.diyncrafts.com/60(delete)81/repurpose/100-ways-repurpose-reuse-broken-household-items Here's a website with some cool repurposing ideas Recruit- Get other people to help/spread the word! ♥ 2) Reduce the amount of palm oil you buy. Palm oil is an ingredient used in a lot of products, in everything from beauty products to chocolate to biofuel. However, rainforests are being cut down to be replaced with palm oil farms, which are a lot less biodiverse than rainforests. WATCH OUT- a lot of products are very sneaky and can use different words for palm oil such as "oil palm" "coconut fatty acid" etc. If you're not sure check out this websitehttps://www.palmoilfreecertification.org/alternate-names-for-palm-oil ( use ctrl f to search rather than scrolling through- it's a long list!! >: ) ♥ 3)Don't participate in fast fashion and reduce the amount of clothes you buy Fashion is surprisingly the second most polluting industry after oil and (coal?). This is because of the water used to produce cotton, the clothes that are thrown away every year and the way that shops incourage people to buy lots of clothes quickly following the latest trends. Once you've finished with clothes, give them away to someone else , sell them to a second hand shop, etc. ♥ 4) Use Ecosia. Ecosia is a search engine that uses the profits it makes from advertising to plant trees. It also protects your privacy a lot more, than, say, google. So far, Ecosia's planted over 100 million trees. They also have a shop where you can buy t-shirts, each of which will give ecosia enough money to plant trees as well. https://info.ecosia.org/ You can find out about ecosia here https://ecosiashop.com/ Here's where you can find ecosia's shop ♥ 5) Don't eat beef! Beef is another one of the world's most polluting industries, mainly the amount of methane (a greenhouse gas) that cows produce and how forests are cut down to make space for cow's grazing land. Instead of buying beef, buy a more eco friendly meat or even vegetarian options. I feel like a lot of people think that vegetarian burgers, for example, is the kind of thing that tastes disgusting and only weird people eat- but please!!! they are very, very tasty. Moving mountains and Beyond Burger do some very good alternatives, and another really tasty one Strong Root's kale and quinoa burger. All of these are really really tasty - please do not write veggie burgers off the menu. Please. ♥ 6) Donate to some cool charities Even if you donate a small amount to some eco friendly charities, it can go far! For example, the Eden Reforestation Project can plant /thirty trees/ when you give them three dollars. So please consider donating! of course, it depends what you personally want to back, so do some research! I'll make a project featuring some good charities in the future ♥ 7) Spread the word! Talk to your families about how they can help! talk to your schools about how to make them more eco friendly! Remix this project or make your own! Put something on your wiwo/about me with one of your favourite eco tips, yours or mine, to help the environment! Please comment if you do one of these things. It would be awesome to know I'd started something. ♥ I'll be making the actual project look better another time :3
