They were losing. And badly. Marshal Commander Seth of the 204th Legion shot the head off of a B1 battle droid, then spun around and jammed the end of his DC-15S blaster into the neck of another droid, severing the head off. As it collapsed, he heard a noise from behind him. It was a sound he had heard hundreds of times on the field- the click of a B2 battle droid as it prepared to fire. But before either of them had time to do anything, a dark shape leapt over Seth and a new sound added to the evocating music of the battlefield. Seth turned around just as the two halves of the once whole battle droid fell to the ground and the emerald green blade of a lightsaber came to rest by its master's side. It was General Myris Tantali, his bright black eyes lacking their usual quiet humor. ''Call the troops to retreat!'' He ordered Seth, making a way through the tangle of droid bodies with the Force. ''I'll hold them off.'' Seth nodded, once, before clicking on his com. ''Retreat! I repeat- everyone retreat! Back to base!'' He hesitated for a few seconds, making out white armor running back through the throng, before starting on his own path of retreat. <:======================================:>They regrouped at the old communications tower they were using as their base. Seth got busy checking on his injured men, and after one of the medics politely but firmly told him to get out of the way, he decided to try to wipe away some of the dust that had somehow gotten inside of his helmet. He walked into the nearest refresher and splashed some water on his face. As he wiped the water off with a towel, he looked at himself in the mirror. The face he shared with millions of other men stared back at him, made distinct only by the shallow scar slashing sideways down his face, and the fact that he looked . . . tired. He sighed. He was only twelve, but he felt at least twice that. This battle wasn't helping with anything, either. Everything was going wrong. The Republic had heard of an old outpost from a years-ago war on some obscure planet that they thought might be of use. They had deployed three Jedi Generals and their clone commanders to check things out. What they didn't know was that the Separatists had beaten them there. General Tantali and his men had managed to secure the communications tower, but only just. Generals Dy Synell and Lara Tannin were defending the outpost, and last Seth had heard, they were faring better than here, but the Separatists were starting to cut off long-range communications and they wouldn't know if anything changed. / ᴀᴅᴅ ɪᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴛʜᴇ ʟɪꜱᴛ,/ he thought humorously. His com beeped, jolting him back to reality. He clicked it on. ''What is it?'' The straight-to-the-point tone of voice revealed Buck, one of his captains. ''The General wants to see you.'' <:======================================:>
''Alright, I'm heading up now.'' Seth responded, clicking his com off. He hitched a ride in one of the lifts, up to the top floor of the tower. There, he found General Tantali waiting for him. The Nautolan Jedi was standing next to a holotable, and he looked up as Seth approached. ''How are the troops?'' He asked, his expression morphing into one of concern. Seth stepped up to the holotable as well, glancing over the frozen battle plans there. ''Nothing they won't recover from.'' He said, both of them hearing the unspoken second sentence- they were losing too many men to keep up a good defense. ''If I had known about the ambush sooner, I would have offered more aide.'' General Tantali said finally. Seth shook his head. ''There was no way to know sooner; we didn't know either, until they were almost on top of us.'' He hesitated for a few seconds, before adding, ''I don't know how much longer we can go on like this.'' Myris held up a hand. ''That's why I wanted to call you up here. I got a message from Master Tannin.'' Seth straightened up slightly. This was news- he thought all communications were down already. ''They managed to destroy a significant amount of the Separatist forces over there, and they're sending reinforcements.'' Seth's spirits lifted even more. They might have a chance, after all! ''When will they arrive?'' He asked, not quite managing to keep the excitement out of his voice. General Tantali smiled, dark eyes amused. ''They will be arriving any minute.'' <:======================================:>
