Heyo! It’s me, Sparky, and I’m back with an original species WIP! These are called the Nightshifters, after a whole buncha changes(first it was Ghostshifters, then Stormshifters, then back to Ghostshifters, and now Nightshifters!). If you have any suggestions, leave em in the comments, I’d love to hear them! ————————————————————————— LORE(incomplete): Short desc: Nightshifters are omnivorous, solitary beings, mostly only coming out during the stormy weathers, as not to be seen. This has lead to the misconception that they can actually summon the storm, which, in reality, just isn’t true. During, the day, excluding during storms or heavy fog, they take the form of normal animals, usually foxes, cats, or raccoons, to stay hidden. Nightshifters have the power to ride the currents, and don’t need wings to fly. Instead, they’ve developed slight levitation, which, when paired with wind currents, can help them glide across the skies. Appearance(incomplete): Usually being mauve or dusky blue-grey, Nightshifters usually have a combination of spots, and swirls, speckled with creamy whites or blues, and have stormy blue eyes. They do not have a gender difference. Powers: Nightshifters have a firefly tail, which they can dim, but never fully turn off, leading to many sightings of blinking lights during storms or heavy fog, and making moths follow them around on the rare occasion they reveal their true form on land. They also can levitate slightly, but only for a few minutes, unless powered by the wind currents, which make them fast and agile in the skies. Nightshifters also can turn into regular animals during the day to disguise themselves, this is voluntary, but is automatically toggled off at night. During the night, a Nightshifter will absorb moonlight into it’s tail, which stores most of the power, and if a Nightshifter doesn’t absorb moonlight for the night, they won’t be able to use their powers during the day. Size: About the size of a Cougar Weight: 80 kg(about 176 pounds)
(1) These are feathers based off of different nightjar species, since they’re my favourite birds! The specific kind of feather there is boils down to genetics, but I just put standard winged nightjar feathers for now since... well... standard. ————————————————————————— (2) This is really not here for any reason, but for those of you who can’t tell, it’s a feather wing wrapping around the firefly tail. I put this here because I asked my friend to name a part of a random mythical creature, and they said angel wings. I didn’t wanna just give them wings, so I put them onto the tail instead as a nod to the OG. ————————————————————————— (3) These are various patterns meant to represent raindrops and puddles, since they are the “Bringers of the storm”, and plus, it just fits in nicely with the lore to have them watery looking! If you read this far, have a nice day, and comment thunderstorm since I wanna see how many people will read it.
