Original by Ap Selane. The backdrop doesn't belong to me. Living in New York in 1985, there was a family of Chinese-American mermaids, the Hwangs. The Hwangs have two children who are siblings, Melissa and Martinus. Melissa was a loyal and athletic girl and Martinus was a soft and introverted boy who wasn’t as athletic as Melissa. Despite their differences, they still love each other even though they don’t act like the ideal male-female twins like their parents expected. Melissa and her brother were having some fun at the beach when all of a sudden, a tsunami occurred and drowned everyone standing nearby. Melissa found Martinus on the brink of getting in an accident, so she went in there and tried to save him, but a sea urchin pierced her right eye and made it harder for her to save her twin brother. Luckily, Melissa’s parents managed to call the ambulance to save both Melissa and Martinus. In the hospital, Melissa survived the operation to remove the sea urchin and give her an eye patch that we see her wear today. Unfortunately, Martinus didn’t survive due to sea debris contaminating his lungs and gills. This made Melissa feel devastated and depressed for a whole week without doing anything that she likes. Fortunately, that backstory of her was just in the 80s to the 90s, she managed to recover from her loss and became a lawyer that we know up to this day. BTW, I changed Melissa's eyepatch to be on the left rather than the right and I decided to publish something earlier than Christmas.
