Arrows, clicking the right or left side of the screen, or space to navigate. m to mute/unmute music I had a look through the new Splatoon 3 Return of the Mammalians trailer, and decided to screenshot key frames and analyse them (even the ones that seem unimportant, just so that everything is here). They should be in chronological order. I also reference Nintendo's article, so be sure to read it to not be as lost: https://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/2021/new-splatoon-3-details-from-the-squid-research-lab/ My notes: 1: Footage of your character, presumably within a level. The props in the background seem to be models of organs 2: More footage of your character, presumably within a level, but in a different environment and featuring a different gearset 3: Another shot of you, in a third environment (presumably within a level). This is also now my desktop background 4: A shot that confirms that Zapfish are still a part of the plot. Same environment as screenshot 3 5: A fourth environment, presumably outside of a level and near the rocket at the end of the trailer. There are multiple moai 6: A shot of you and little buddy in a fifth environment, presumably within a level 7: What I think is a sunken scroll featuring Judd. Nintendo has emphasized the fact that Judd and L'il Judd are the only mammals left, so they are likely going to be significant to the plot 8: More notes on Judd, may be part of a sunken scroll 9: Shot of what I assume to be near the rocket shown at the end 10: Shot of the background in the second environment 11: Shot of gravity-defying hairy octarian troopers. Something that I would like to note is that the thing they are riding is transparent and has the 'ammo' stored inside of it (which also defies gravity). This isn't a design I have seen before. Also they have bare feet 12: A shot of another octotrooper in the fifth environment. A useless detail I found: this one seems to be standing on a re-cycled recycling bin, but the recycle symbol's arrows are actually pictures of squids with 'X' eyes 13: A shot of a structure I assume to be near the rocket 14: A seemingly insignificant glitchy-transition screen (UPDATE: the silos are a part of Flounder Heights from Splatoon 1) 15: Another transition screen 16: Probably a sunken scroll, possibly of inklings dissecting their evolutionary ancestors 17: A shot of the background in the second environment 18: A shot of the background in the first environment. The main prop seems to literally be a patch of land with cables. Some of the props are just bizzare 19: Probably a sunken scroll, featuring the inverted Eiffel tower. The person on the tree is actually an INKLING, as seen by their ears. This shows that inklings still suffered from climate issues. Also, the art style reminds me of Japanese Woodblock Printing, which suggests this image was made a while ago 20: This seems like another transition screen, but this one is actually significant. In the background, there is the rocket that is seen at the end, and in the center, there is a logo. This logo is prevalent around the rocket. The warning signs in the bottom left I feel like I have seen elsewhere on the structures around the rocket, and there is a human fingerprint on the very right, yet this is in a non-human language 21: Clip of you throwing your little buddy at fuzzy ooze, presumably outside of a level and near the rocket. Nintendo has confirmed that little buddy can consume fuzzy ooze. There seem to be power eggs or something around little buddy. Also, the concept and the pattern on the ooze reminds me of the pattern on sanatized ink in octo expansion, and of the ooze Tartar was trying to make, leading me to believe there is some sort of connection 22: Shot of octotroopers in the second environment 23: Shot of props in the first environment 24: Shot of your character, presumably in the first environment 25: Weird transition screen, also there are some stickers that look like signs found near the rocket 26: Shot of you chilling in the fifth environment 27: Pixel art of you, seems to be based off the official poster 28: Pixel art of Callie from the poster 29: Same thing but with Marie 30: Shot of retired Cap'n Cuttlefish, in an environment that seems like the Splatlands 31: Shot of Callie (Agent 1), Marie (Agent 2), and the captain of the squidbeak splatoon (previously Agent 3). Nintendo confirmed that you are the new agent 3. On a side note, the old agent 3 will be 21 years old by the time Splatoon 3 releases, if they were 14 when Splatoon 1 released. Do you feel old yet? I certainly do 32: Shot of you in the first environment (some frames were ommited as they were repetitive) 33: Shot of you clearly featuring your new weapon (the new hero shot?) 34: Shot of what I think is a structure next to the rocket 35: Shot of octotroopers in the fifth environment 36: Shot of background in second environment 37: Shot of level layout in fifth environment
...continued, because I ran out of room. 38: transition screen, but with the 'rocket logo' in the bottom left 39: Shot of Callie, Marie and the captain. There seems to be the rocket in the background. I wonder why they are all yellow. On a side note, Marie's coat is really cool, and I would like to point out the captain's Jandals with lights on them 40: I bet you $10 that the context of this is something like "We're the Squid Sisters! What? You've never heard of us?" 41: Shot of you presumably near the rocket, fuzzy ooze visible near the bottom 42: An admittedly well-composed shot of an octotrooper 43: Shot of you in the third environment 44: Transition screen 45: A better image of Craig Cuttlefish. If you look carefully, there is fuzzy ooze at the very right of the screen 46: Little buddy after eating fuzzy ooze 47: Transition screen 48: Shot of you, presumably entering the rocket 49: This one is acutally an intersting one. The prop seems to be a model of an eyeball. The interesting thing about this is that it seems to be a vertabrate eyeball. The reason why I can tell this is because a vertabrate's optic nervre creates a blindspot in the eye, while a cephalopod's eye doesn't. Why would there be a giant model of an eye that is common to humans but not to inklings and octolings, floating in the air? Alternatively this is a model of an eye that belongs to evolved samonoids, as fish are vertabrate and apart from shape and proportion, have identical eyes 50: A shot of a level in presumably the first environment. The weapon that agent 3 is holding is not actually the heroshot, but seems to be a variant of the sloshing machine with a white back, which is weird, because the back of sloshing machines are usually coloured the same as your ink colour, and not white 51: Shot of octopods in the first environment. Good to know that they aren't hairy too (UPDATE: they now look slightly different according to new material released by Nintendo) 52: Shot of little buddy, with rocket and container with the 'rocket logo' on it 53: Transition screen with the 'rocket logo' on it 54: Shot of background in the first environment. Just noting that the only other time I have seen something that clean and white was in octo expansion 55: Shot of octotrooper in the fifth environment 56: Blurred shot of the fifth environment 57: Shot of you running towards the rocket 58: Shot of DJ Octavio, presumably in his Octobot King III 59: Shot of Octavio sliding down a clifface that looks similar to the one in the background with the shot of Craig Cuttlefish. I would be disappointed if he was the final boss again, because we still have Tartar to deal with, not to mention that Nintendo could give us a new antagonist. Maybe he is also threatened by the return of mammals and wishes to help us? 60: A full shot of the rocket at the end of the trailer. I will note the lines in the background. Does this mean we have inklings in space? When do we see this rocket ingame? I believe that we will see this around the same time we meet Callie and Marie. So, when ingame do we first meet Craig, Callie and Marie, and DJ Octavio? Will we meet the other agents, and Off the Hook? How about Tartar and the Deep Sea Metro? 61: Clip of you being turned into a furry blob. This is the most kid-friendly depiction of biological weaponary and body horror I have ever seen. The intersting thing is that after this clip, and the title 'Return of the Mammalians' appears on screen, the Grizzco jingle plays, suggesting that they play a significant role in the story. What do you think? Please comment your ideas or build onto mine. Also, I genuinely congratulate you if you have somehow managed to actually read through all of this.
